Heh, thanks for the picture updates. Jessica Biel is teh new hotness.
I thought about retarded bomb, but those already exist in the air-dropped form. The term dumb bomb is also used as the opposite of a smart bomb.
Hey, I’m not that stupid, I know about retarded/dumb bombs. 🙂
The weapons designers probably decided that r.s.b, or remedial school bomb would be too long to say.
JDAM=smart bomb
Suicide bomber=not so smart bombA little humor for the day 😀
Do you mean dumb/retarded/remenial school bomb?
Gents, this thread is far too large. Please start another, thanks

Gents, this thread is getting far too long. I’m closing it, please start another. Thanks.
Correct, those are IFF interrogator aerials. No sense shooting down your own jets!
It’s probably a direct feed to the Chinese Spice channel that he’s viewing in the little screen. 🙂
Where can you get it?
See link above in very first post.
Thanks to almond, Desert Fox, and Pak Thunder, this thread is getting locked.
Sinodefense mentions the weapon as being used by the Su-30MKK even if there isn’t a separate page for it.
Tut tut SOC, I think you mean sinedefenCe. 🙂 What’s going on with Hui Tong’s page anyhow?

China unveils new ejection seat

China’s Aerospace Life-Support Industries (ALI) has introduced a new zero/zero ejection seat capable of ejecting a pilot safely from a stationary aircraft at ground level using through-the-canopy ejection technology.
Development of the new TY-5 ejection seat, which the company said is “more advanced” than its TY-6 model, was completed in late 2003. It is produced in two variants, the TY-5A and TY-5B.
Critical design elements include a more advanced electronic sequencer and improved stabilisation. The new sequencer reduces the time between ejection initiation and deployment of the parachute, while the stabilisation system allows safe escape at speeds up to 1,200 km/h.
Other new design features of the ejection seat include a combined propulsion unit consisting of a catapult and twin seatback rockets to improve performance on zero/zero ejection, and arm guards operated by hot gas to protect against windblast. The TY-5 also has dual primers fitted in the ejection propulsion unit and all-explosive cartridges; twin cartridges on the main parachute gun; and three separation subsystems, two of which are operated automatically and the other manually.
ALI officials said the TY-5B is installed on the CAC JF-17 (previously the FC-1) attack fighter prototypes and is competing with an ejection seat from Martin-Baker of the UK to outfit the aircraft when it enters serial production. According to the company, the TY-5B is installed on “certain fighters”, possibly the CAC J-10 multirole fighter.
Separately, ALI announced an agreement with China National Aero-Technology Import & Export Corporation to provide up to 100 of its TY-7A ejection seats for export models of the NAMC K-8 basic jet trainer/light attack aircraft. Details of the contract have not been revealed.

They were talking about that 20 years ago too. Not much progress has been made on that issue in the past couple of decades.
However, they do plan on keeping them around for awhile longer.
Wanshan,
Great pic, thanks.
A few questions though;
What’s the difference between the AK-300 and AK-630?
Is that a Kashtan-M picture to the very far right? Looks like a new mount with E/O system.
I can’t believe how big the Zubr is! Dwarfs the tank completely.
Let’s all stay calm here now!
Nothing significant about this Gripen ‘order’- could just be an exploratory move, and even if the order is finalized, it doesn’t signal the demise of the LCA. It could be, that LCA production can’t ramp up quickly enough to fulfill the needs of the IAF so they will need to turn to an outside source.
