I think they have at least a couple hundred S-300s missiles, which is quite plentiful.
Wow. How. Did. This. Thread. Get. 1.9.7. Posts. Already?

I doubt that he will be limited to a single Exocet.
In the March 5th edition of Jane’s Navy International, it was written that while France announced its order of the new Block 3 MM40 Exocets, they also announced the following:
“- In the same announcement, the DGA also approved MBDA to work on the integration of the MM39 air-launched version of Exocet into the fleet’s Rafale M and Rafale N fighter aircraft, boosting their long-range anti-ship capability. Each aircraft will be able to carry a single MM39 on their centreline pylon. “

Experts may disagree on which Pakistani missile is based on which Chinese/Korean missile, but the overall fact is that all experts agree that Pakistan’s missile tech is 100% imported with local work being assembly, painting and naming only. Nothing more.
Yes, I know there is no such thing as a Shaheen per se.
Well, the Jane’s report I just quoted to you qualifies as expert testimony, and clearly suggests that the Shaheen-II is not 100% imported tech, or even based on the M-18. So since when do ALL experts agree on your opinion?
Hey Portugal,
why does it look like your 5.56mm bullet is bashed in on the tip?:)
I’d say the Yakhont-Ms look good on paper, but the big question is how resistant are the guidance systems to countermeasures?

Got that right. The S-300PMU can engage to 90km (5V55RUD), with the S-300PMU-1 engaging out to 150km (48N6E).
Well, it’s a start. The harder part is probably getting a good electronics/seeker set together- I’m sure an extended range airframe isn’t much harder to build.
No word on whether they’ll be integrating the latest Block 3 Exocet though.
Actually, the Shaheen is not based on the M-18, which never entered service with China.
See this quote from Jane’s Missile and Rockets, 2000.
“Some observers believe Shaheen 2 to be based on the Chinese two-stage M-18, a missile exhibited in Beijing in 1988. This seems unlikely; the maximum range of the M-18 was only 1,000km with a 400-450kg payload, so the reported range of Shaheen 2 would imply a significant improvement over the Chinese original. In practice, the M-18 is thought to have been a two stage derivative of the single-stage DF-15/M-9 (CSS-6) and not the smaller and lighter DF-11/M-11, and its development is thought to have been cancelled in 1992 or 1993. “

John Pike no longer leads FAS.
It seems to me that 60km isn’t a large enough distance to be able to safely engage the PLAAF’s S-300 batteries.
The French are working to integrate the air launched MM-39 Exocet onto the Rafales- though only a single one will be able to be carried on the center pylon.
rental jets eh? Does Austria get a special weekend rate?
Ho hum do I sense another flame war?
