Why is a weak pound a bad thing for the UK? It seems it is actually a benefit to UK based manufacturing.
What manufacturing?
If you are thinking of automotive think again. The remaining manufacturing is specialised and not the kind that produces volumes.
Guys, I am sorry, but you are describing a local government choice. The EU doesn’t mandate that Eastern Europeans or whatever, will be paid less to undercut me, you or anyone. I’m sorry to say but there is a lot of political choice to come up with tools for ths not to happen and the EU had nothing to do with this. That’s why I said we have been narrow minded on this.
“How will Brexit affect UK aviation?”
As with everything in life, you reap what you sow!
I fear we have been extremely narrow minded in this and it is going to be expensive in the long run.
Actually I am in My wife’s home country for a the summer, and the Greeks have a saying that is more appropriate I think …”when you sow winds, you reap storms!” ….it’s hard not to see dark clouds closing in..
F-15 radar is extremely powerful though, it probably the fighter with the most powerful radar at the moment along with Su-35S, it can also carry ATP sniper-xr, which is a powerful IRST unit by itself
It doesn’t matter how powerful it is. The engagement envelope is always beyond the reach of the systems. Think about it.
When reports come in from F-22 of F-35 pilots claiming “the other side didn’t know what hit them”, that’s exactly what they mean. The other side in the exercise didn’t even detect them.
It is very possible that actual sorties, in actual combat missions, will bring aircraft within the range of sensors of systems that where not accounted for (i.e. closer than desired).
but again, given how meticulous the USAF and USN have been in planning missions, I doubt this is a realistic case for the future.
E1 would essentially in an unprotected environment cause tracks on a PCB to melt/burn out as if they were fuse wires, so it’s not just the individual components that get fried but the layers on and within the PCB as well.
GarryA : You answered your own question with the first paeagraph of your quote above
Depends how far away from the EMP origin they are. It is distance dependent.
A somewhat cryptic news..
Has the F-15E in question gotten its upgrade on its Fire and control unit?
I don’t know about the upgrades, however this seems like the generic scenario.
Blue team tries to kill the red team.
However we know and can accept (as we always did) that a standard 4 gen plane cannot pick up neither of the F-35 and F-22 on their radar. I mean that was the first requirement to begin with!
So in such a standard scenario, the blue team, flies, doesn’t pick up anything on radar, and then they are notified that a kill has been made on their team/plane.
You keep trying that for a few hours and then you have the outcome.
What makes you think that progress automatically means territorial expansion? I am talking about more integration in fiscal, monetary, defense or trade policies.
1. I think that pretty much everyone in the EU agrees on that matter.. Still no reason to shatter the whole thing
2. I disagree. For expansions, most people are unable to even find the said countries on the map, let alone say anything meaningful about the situation. For treaties, most people have zero idea what is written there, they are being lead by phantasmagoric conspiracy theories about Mosanto poisoning the whole world and similar crap (talking TTIP now)I seriously believe most people in Bratain, having voted pro or contra, have zero idea about what EU really brings and what it really takes.
This forum generally has an aversion to BS. Most Britons didn’t vote because of “more democracy” …they voted out because of immigration! Old f**ts afraid of Eastern Europeans taking over their neighbourhoods!
Everything else is just some weird excuse people tell themselves so they won’t feel racist!
Wouldn’t the average PSU(power supply unit) also be affected by EMP? If that is the case, it would not help shielding the different boxes on a jet, if they have no power.
Well a KW generator should not have much problem dealing with an EMP providing it was not next to the pulse. The more powerful the PSU, the better able to handle the pulse -in theory- it should be as it is already able to handle massive loads and voltages.
in my opinion, electric equipment with an antenna like Radar and RWR can’t be shielded from EMP, because they need to receive radiowave so they cant be putted in a Faraday cage, On the otherhand components that doesn’t required outer electromagnetic out put should be quite easy to be shielded from EMP
Come to think of it, EMP effects from a high altitude nuclear explosion will seriously handicapped modern aircrafts, their radar and RWR will be fired, their missiles and bombs ( if carried externally) will likely be fried as well, iam wondering if EMP can denote the warhead of weapons?
I am no expert, but an antenna and even the tracks on an individual PCB are not vulnerable to EMP. It’s the electronic components such as inductors, capacitors, ICBs and processors that have a problem. So shielding of the processing modules should be sufficient.
how are they made? what is the difference with normal microchip?
They are shielded -if I am not mistaken. But nothing is entirely EMP proof..
And UK shipbuilding would be moved back south of the border. But like I said, it isn’t up to Sturgeon whether there’s a referendum. It has to be agreed by the UK, so there’s no way they’ll pick a stupid time like now, when everything is up in the air, to decide to have one.
It’s not arrogance, look at the numbers for A8 EU migrants yourself. These numbers do not work for the UK, irrespective of country, some people just think they do because they haven’t witnessed the effects.

What are you talking about, I live in Hampshire!!!
UK will soon be a history and UK military will be divided between 3 new states, Scotland, England and Wales and to enlarged Ireland as Northern Ireland will also inherit its part of UK military and bring it to united Ireland. Question is, how much will any part inherit from ex-UK. On the longer term, considering, that economy after Brexit will go down, there will be big cuts with all new entities and military strength will be well reduced. Most probably they could already forget about new carriers and F-35 jets.
I think British arrogance doesn’t allow some people to realise the very real chance that Scotland and Ireland may really decide to leave the UK. Having paid for years for a common defence they would be entitled to some of that equipment. I don’t think a deal to “protect” both countries by the English forces is going to fly for too long.
If they go for an independence move, some bets will be off.
I still can’t see why you guys think the F-35 will dominate in sensors or netcentric warfare. The F-35A might enjoy some advantage over what Chinese can field now, but in 2030, the F-35D will easily have lagged behind advanced versions of J-31 or J-20. If there is anything Chinese are good at, then this is it. Send data in real time, guess what, every cheapish Bluboo or UMI can do it.. They have already designed more mobile devices than you will ever forget. They are catching up in sensors/electronics at light speed, they cycle times are half of the west, it’s inevitable, only a matter of time..
Airframe and propulsion, that is the tech which is the hardest to master..
True, but effective encryption might be an issue. Although I doubt it.
Now there’s an idea … how much damage would a fully-fueled A380 do to a carrier?
A significant fire, but not too bad structurally I should think!
You can hardly blame the aircraft for that. Using the same logic, what has the F-22 achieved in practice? I mean, what do you expect? The US and Russia to get involved in wars to test out their kit and demonstrate their effectiveness….oh wait…
My 2c,
I still think the F-15 is a superior weapons system, whilst the Su-27 family is a superior aircraft. The point is in a hypothetical engagement which one would prevail.
I am not talking 1 on 1. I mean had one side got an X number of F-15s and the other also an X number of Su-27s, which side would prevail.
