Several other aircraft in the RAF Museum collection are already out on loan, including a number at Tangmere (Swift, Hunter, Phantom IIRC)

That doesn’t seem to be working too well either, as the last two Spitfire swaps (Egyptian Kittyhawk and A-20 from Australia) seem to be turning sour.

I would hope that examples of the Sea King and Tucano will be added to the collection as they reach their OSD. Presumably all the Tutors and King Airs will be sold on the open market as they are contractor-owned.

Much as the Maryland would be a nice addition, does anyone seriously envisage the RAF Museum going after it after the Kittyhawk debacle?

Indeed, a combat-veteran Jaguar is sadly missing in the UK National collections, with Duxford somewhat bizarrely chosing to preserve a development example.

Am I right in thinking that in 2015 the F2B is the commonest Bristol type flying now? Funny old world 😉

Apart from the Duxford Blenheim and the Sycamore in Austria I can’t think of any others, unless you count the replica Boxkites at Old Warden and in Australia.

I can’t imagine a similar situation arising anywhere else in the museum sector, for example major national Art Collections.

Imagine the scene at a senior management meeting:

“Right, any of you lot know anything about art?”

“Er, nope!”

My plan? Put on an entrance fee of £25 and do away with the money raising concessions. How’s that feel?

Being near a mass of population is no guarantee that people will want to come and see old aircraft sat in a hangar.

Even Kermit found that out the hard way, and he’s not exactly renowned for being short of a bob or two.
