I am by no means dismissing the potential hazard, but out of interest, have there been many instances of WWII ordinance exploding, either through disturbance or deterioration, in the UK or Europe in the last 20 or so years?
Martin,
IIRC a few years ago during construction work, in Berlin I believe, a WWII bomb exploded killing three people.

Well…that must make you positively ancient to even remember seeing it Cees!! 😀 😀 Andy Saunders
I must have been 21 at the time Andy 😀
And I am worldfamous in small circles for my excellent memory :p
No beard anymore eh
Cees
Andy,
Yes I know you are that old. I remember the photo’s of you sitting in the cockpit in After The Battle. 😀

Strange that so early in the war, these Spitfires (then state of the art) were just left. Is N3200 the Sangatte Spitfire? When recovered it looked less complete with the front fuselage and inner wings remaining. What happened before that?
Interesting to see photo’s of these aircraft with the knowledge that they both survived the war and were recovered in the eighties.
Cees
Yes it is. :diablo:
Hey, it’s a jet! 😎
Cees
The pics are very much appreciated. I heard there are plans for a Hampden instrument panel somewhere in Europe.
Cheers

Oh….there will be plenty of Halifax throttle boxes there, Cees!!! Andy
Andy, you naughty
have a great day tomorrow guys
Cees
Can’t make it, again! 😡
The wife couldn’t get a day off. As we were planning to visit the south of England with Shoreham along the way. So it’s plan B instead: The Ardennes
Good luck tomorrow and keep you hands off any Halifax throttle boxes :dev2:
Cheers

Amazing start to work from 😮 😮

Dave,
In France a lot of Typhoon sites have been dug the past few decades. There must be a lot of raw material don’t you think.
pity the substantial bits from the Pangham Harbour Typhoon were scrapped by a preservation group. Or were they?
Cees
What’s the story about MN235 that a lot of parts are non-original. I heard that the radiator came from a lorry instead of something that used to belong down that engine. Does it have an engine?
Cees
Cees,
It would be possible to collect Typhoon parts in the UK if people/groups were willing to part with their items. Unfortunately they are not so another Typhoon will have to remain spread around 🙁 As for the wreck you mention…if it is the one that I am thinking of then as far as I know it doesn’t exist anymore as it was dragged further out to prevent causing damage to local fishing vessels and was destroyed in the process. Any more specifics on the one you are thinking of?
I do know of enough parts in existence to complete the main part of a Typhoon and the wings can be remanufactured as they are a simple design (and there are enough crash damaged parts to provide vital information). One day there will be a second Typhoon….1 is just not enough for me 🙂
Here here 🙂
Cees
Many happy returns. You still don’t look old enough to be in the RFC!! 😀
So TT is to be changed in BB (Babyface Ben?)
Cheers Ben, have a great day.
Cheers

Good to see some positive action to recover this unique and previously extinct aircraft type. Now if only someone would do the same for the Hawker Hinds still in the same scrap area…..
My thoughts exactly, then the area isn’t mined, or at least rendered safe.
Get them out,….please
