The question is ”how many more Centaurus failures can the Royal Navy Historic Flight accommodate before, however regretfully, they give it up as a bad job ?”

Hopefully they will stick with it, and enjoy better fortune than recent years. Their troubled experiences, though, are not matched by Sanders aeronautics (USA) who have been restoring and campaigning stock Sea Furies for 30 or more years, and have not been dogged by endless engine issues, for whatever reasons.

Purists may not appreciate the R2800 substitution option , but at least the darn thing keeps going!

Seems that the Centaurus is a big issue these days was it always so ?
Maybe the old skills needed to make them run successfully lost in the mists of time.

Way back in the late 50’s I used to sit on Southsea/Eastney beach,
watching the Seafury’s running in on the gunnery school at Fraser.
They would turn up most regularly so much so no one bothered to take photos .. aah.

    Hi Martin your post..
Must have been some experience, and some cost…Don’t think you’d fit too many cars and passengers.

Well myself and two pals in 1963 flew my Mini along with two very expensive cars(their owners look sideways at us) across the same route on our way to the Paris airshow.
My notes indicates -Car £6, Passengers-£19 for all 3. and here’s the crunch Petrol coupons £8 /18/ 6 RAC Touring Service £3/10/ 0 old money.
Vaguely remember one was only allowed to take out a very small amount of money. Twenty two airfields visited , what a memory.

The Royal Observe Corps guys had the Seaborne shoulder badge and the rank of Petty Officer . Paid a special rate of £1 a day, over 1000 of the volunteers reported for duty. Two were killed by enemy action. I had the pleasure of attending group meeting with some of them during my service with the Corps.

Living near enough, I and many others traveled from abroad. Its what ones priorities are surely, with health/ work commitments excluded.
Great work by Goodwood estate staff and all involved many thanks.
