    Hi,

Airfix did a kit of a 737-200 in 1:144 scale – I used to have this one a few years ago. The model comes with British Airways (Old c/s) and Air France decals. Not a bad model for an Airfix one either – more detailed than the others in the range which include a dreadful 747-100 in the same scale.

I still own some of the Airfix models that were brought out in the same line including an A300B4 and DC-10. I also own an Airfix BAC 1-11-200 in the same scale which isn’t a bad one. I’m pretty sure that the 737 model is still being sold in some places – Though it dates back to the 1980’s when they brought it out under the ‘Modern Airliners’ range. They repackaged the airliners in different boxes with differnt artwork later on. The only Revell model I own is a KLM 767-300 so I can’t be sure if they ever did a 732.

    Hope this helps.

    Jim.

Nice BHX shots….I keep meaning to go and pay a visit to the airport soon. I recently moved to Stafford, but I used to live less than two miles from the airport and spent nearly very weekend there. Have any of you guys paid a visit to COV yet? I wouldn’t mind seeing the Thomsonfly 737’s in action – Just wondered if there were any got spots to view them from as I haven’t been there for a while.

    Cheers,

    Jim.

Sad to see CJE broken up like that – I flew on that bird several times on the BHX-DUB route. I always remember it being quite clean inside and out compared to some of the other 737’s in the FR fleet. Still, the bird had a good life though and was a high cycle airframe and did well to last till now.

    All the best,

    Jim.

Used 757’s are booming at the moment – I’m not sure of their exact values but there seems to be several going to airlines with ‘limited’ financial resources.

I can’t blame them for selecting the type either – they are still an economical aircraft and can get in and out of airfields which are restricted by runway length. The seat/mile cost per PAX is still favourable when compared to younger a/c such as the A321 and they can fly further with max payload.

Many thanks for the responses guys – They have been very helpful.

It is sad to see the end is near for another of my favourite airliners. Still, the 767 has has a good production run and like it’s smaller sister, the 757, it will be flying in our skies for many years to come at least.

I guess Boeing will be concentrating on the 787 now and it seems like it will be an ideal replacement for airlines with older 767 fleets. I recall seeing a photograph of an ex TWA 767 being broken up recently – a very sad site indeed.

Now that the first old 757 (one has already been reduced to scrap in Florida) and 767 types have been broken up, it would appear that many more will be facing the axe in the next few years. Both types would make excellent freighters though and DLA have demonstrated this with their ex BA 757 fleet.

    Hi,

That control tower looks very impressive. I’ve always wanted to spend a day at EDI and intend to get up there as soon as I can.

What sort of a/c types are most common at EDI these days? I assume it is regional jets and members of the 737 and A320 family?

    Many thanks,

    Jim

    Hi,

make the most of it if the flight is on a -200….FR are supposed to be getting rid of the last examples towards the end of this year. I flew BHX-DUB several times on a -200 and they are quite an awesome aircraft – Those P&W JT8D’s are great old engines!! I never experiened anything on an FR -200 that made me feel unsafe – The machines I flew on were mainly ex Britannia examples and they were surprisingly clean for their age. I hear the ex Lufthansa machines were a bit grubby, but I cannot confirm this as I never flew on one of those.

Hi everyone, this is my first post as a new member so please accept my apologies if you spot any mistakes!!

Nice to see those BHX snaps – I was a regular at the airport for many years, mainly sitting at the end of the runway in Sheldon Country Park!!

I’m glad AI are using 777’s – This is good news as this heralds an important airline to the airport. I’m sure some of you may remember that AI used to fly 707’s into the airport many years ago but pulled out not all that long before the new airport terminal was opened in 1984. Given that EK are switching the daily 777 to a twice daily A330-200, it is nice to know that we are still getting at least another 777 operator in!!

I would have loved to have seen the EK 773 that has been into BHX recently – Who says BHX cannot handle big jets!!

Now, if only BA pull their finger out and get rid of those RJ100 things – I long for the days when the apron was full of their BAC 1-11’s and not forgetting the 732’s they used in the early to mid 90’s!!

    All the best!!

    Jim. 🙂
