The Shuttleworth Collection. 🙂
I do! (and more than making a ten quid donation!)… this is our 30th consecutive year of trading at Old Warden – and as I was the one who posted about the Vulcan’s so-called ‘cancellation’ – please be aware those talking about ‘negative waves’ – I never said one word about the failure of that total waste of money (and I am allowed to say that – it’s my own personal opinion!) to show other than quoting what was on the Shuttleworth website!
This from the ‘Military Pageant Airshow’ information page:
quote’ The Vulcan will unfortunately no longer be performing a flypast at our airshow due to the postponement of a planned private display it was to feature at.’ unquote

I’ve got me a seat reserved!
Well, there’s G-BMLA……. G-INFO is your friend!….. but maybe that one was a bit too early!
It was fished out as stated – and somewhere in my files – and old newsletters – I have full details of the presentation, but as the Engineering Director of EAAS, I did not have that much to do with the Tower. The curator, the late Vince Hemmings accepted it on behalf of EAAS, and I know that when Vince was the curator, there was a full display card with the exhibit and proper records kept. I’ll see what I can discover, if not I’ll speak with his widow, cos I know she still has his own personal duplicate files.
“TSR-2 Day an excellent idea. Would certainly attend if event confirmed. Might I also suggest (on the Southfield site, possibly) a large bonfire to round-off the event complete with effigies of Dennis Healy, Roy Jenkins, and of course Harold Wilson. A winner.”
I think you will find that Healey, Wilson et al were just the puppets in the piece – the real assassins were Louis Mountbatten and Robert Strange McNamara.
Here’s an idea for a future Leg-Ends… a trio of Canadair CL-215 water-bombers (Buffalo Airways maybe?) giving a demonstration of flying and water-bombing in trail?…
or…
Send an invite out to bring a Martin Mars over for a demo?
Just a thought!
I remember a good few years ago now a perfect solution was found at one of the air shows to get rid of the freeloaders – and provide an interesting display item….
A Stearman was on the schedule flown by Bill Bowker – he gave a demonstration of ‘crop-spraying’ by dropping the entire hopper load of water on them – it certainly got rid of the pests – and gained a terrific round of applause!
de Havilland = the man and family
De Havilland = the company and therefor the products
(but some publishing houses do not follow that convention)
Here we go again….
Bob Morgan and his ‘crew’ flew their last mission on 17th May 1943 – to the submarine pens at Lorient. 41-24485 Memphis Belle flew one more combat mission in the 19th May under the command of Lt C L Anderson and his crew – target Kiel, Germany. That was the aircraft’s 25 officially credited mission. Everything I have on record from primary source documentation including the USAAF Form 41s say that the aircraft flew only 24 missions and possibly only 23 as there are two very suspicious aborts.
Bl**dy Hell!!!!!!
Well done and thank you so much Robert!
I knew about the HH connection, and also that he was pirated away from Hughes to work for the Higgins Boat Company building PT boats
