It will make both companies more atractive to potential buyers than if they had stayed together.

Well well well, look at this hanging off the wing of a JH7A at Zhuhai:

    A Sino-AGM-154…

Bet that will cause some interesting debates back at the Pentagon and the Air Power Australia web-site to go into total meltdown…I wonder what panicky the end is nigh gems old Carlo Kopp will come up with over this one!

Not sure what’s so remarkable about a glide bomb that would occasion so much excitement?

Yep, glide bombs are dime a dozen nowadays. Doesn’t look it it has any sort of special guidance either, save for (probable) satnav/ins. Plus it can’t yet be confirmed PLAAF actually has those bombs, it could be an airshow model plane. We’ll see more in the coming days, i guess.

It looks more like a JASSM/Storm Shadow missile than a JSOW type weapon, I wonder if Deino knows what the specifications are of this new air launched weapon?

First time I have seen such a detailed image of the JSM. How does it compare with the JASSM?

I thought that the PLAAF did have a successor aircraft to take over from the JH-7A/B in the shape of the JH-XX? What has become of the program, as I have not seen anything about this potential new aircraft for a while.

Like Su-35, Su-30SM is equipped with very powerful PESA radar Bars-R and engines with TVC and have quite similar capabilities as Su-35. Production tempo in Irkut is big, 21 Su-30SM and they plan for 30 Su-30SM in 2015. With such tempo they could easily produce more than 200 Su-30SM up to 2020 for both RuAF and NAVY. Su-35 production is not yet so fast, so there could be only more than 100 Su-35 in 2020. RuAF simply need both Su-35 and Su-30SM in Far East and Siberia simply because of the size of air space there to protect.

Su-30M2 is cheaper and less sophisticated fighter than Su-30SM and combined with Su-35, KnAAZ could hold similar number of fighters produced per year. in 2014 they will produce 12 Su-35 and 8 Su-30M2. They will be combined with upgraded Su-27SM fighters in combined regiments and to replace worn out Su-27UB planes. They will for sure buy more of them, but not in so large numbers as Su-30SM.

I agree, that RuNAVY need 3 more squadrons of MiG-29K/KUB. 1 squadron of MiG-29KUB to operate in Eysk NITKA naval training center to train new naval pilots and 2 squadrons for rotations of squadrons operating on carrier.

I don’t know why the Russian Navy did not order more squadrons of MiG-29K/KUB to begin with, especially when there are plans to bring 3 possible 4 aircraft carriers in the future.

A shame that politics got in the way of Rooivalk, lets hope that a successor design will be more successful in the future.

Smart looking paint job. I like the new look as the old camouflage scheme was looking a bit tired. And will they be repainting the entire force with the new look?

Interesting photos. Are there any changes between 2012s weapons bays and the other flying prototypes?

What about the Tupolev Tu-142 that is based on the Tu-95? It has massive range and can carry tonnes of ordnance in its weapons bays and external hard points. By the way anyone got any pictures of the Tu-142 either in Indian or Russian service?

What about a version of the Rooivalk with Millimetre Wave radar guided missiles? since MMW radar seems to be all the rage these days, and it would help the export potential of the Rooivalk.

yes , all supersonic missiles does
doesnt really make different for the subsonic missiles i think

Makes you wonder how no one has come up with a solution to the problem.

also subsonic release of missiles at 60-50 k feets still benefit the missiles much more than mach 1.4-mach 2 release of missiles at 30-40 K feets

Do all missiles suffer from this problem?

Is the R-37 effective against a fast, agile, target?

I thought the R-37 had a top speed of Mach 4 or Mach 5, so that would leave the enemy aircraft little time to avoid the missile.

It’s getting more and more intersting ! 🙂

Yet another J-20 prototype no.2012, getting very exited here. It has not been that long since 2011 flew for the first time.
