Very nice work Visotka1 ! Having seen some of your creations in your posts to this forum over the last 6-8 months I have to say I’m impressed with your skillsets. Looking forward to seeing your final product.
Hi 94th Aero….I assume you mean the late 1950s L188 Electra vs. the 1930s Lockheed model 10/12 Electra?
I recently found/bought this DC-7C wheel with all of its original switches and hole plugs in place. I think it’s likely the original finish too. What’s interesting are the (3) small tapped holes around the hub to attach a retaining ring–which kept the cap from being “stolen”. Most of DC-7 (and DC-6) wheels did not have these holes so the rings might be peculiar to a given airline. Starting wth the DC-8, all caps were mounted with retaining rings. The last of the photos is of my DC-6 wheel with such a retaining ring installed.

6.26.2018 edit: I guess what I call my DC-6 wheel could be a early DC-7 wheel too. I don’t know for sure if the retaining cap was OEM equipment on any DC-6. Anyone out there know for sure?

Three or four years ago I had significant problems getting the photo upload to work. I did bring it forum management’s attention. They could not find any problem. Then, a month or so later, >poof<, the photo upload feature worked again. I uploaded the image below in the usual way…no apparent problems.
The Convair 880 wheel/cap/clipboard are a recent buy. Wasn’t cheap but it’s not every day a Convair trifecta shows up on Ebay….in excellent condition.

Hi Ian: Sent you a PM. n
This is a pretty good buy on US eBay (Buy it Now) for $100us. S2F wheel with all switches…in need of some cosmetics.
Boeing B17 cap on US Ebay. The cap has some issues but this version is not the easiest to come by…and due to its design, it’s probably the most desirable of the B17 caps.
Now make sure everyone doesn’t rush to bid at the same time….. :highly_amused:
I think you will like the product Darrell. A very nice reproduction for the price.
Hi Visotka1:
Your TU144 is impressive and ambitious. Am I understanding correctly that you are going to cast and machine-finish an example of this wheel/yoke from scratch? If so…WOW !!
Hi all:
I’m onto my next project, a DH Dove/Heron captain’s wheel (with brake) on a partial column. It has no cap so I’m fabricating a facsimile. If anyone on this forum has such a wheel I’m wondering if you might consider posting a photo of the center hub with the cap removed, and a photo of the back side of the cap. Although my wheel is still mounted to the control head, it’s missing whatever was in the hub for mounting the cap. Photo below isn’t very good but shows what I’ve got….or don’t have…

“Where did you get the button from on the LH side?”
Hi Martyn: The AP Cut Out switch came with the yoke when purchased. Got lucky there. The R/T switch is indeed a rotary…but I wouldn’t use the word “standard” for those switches. There were many variations on the rotary comm switch theme over the four or five decades they were installed as new equipment. I’m constantly on the lookout for the earlier variety.
“Your Belfast yoke must need an enormous centre cap….”
It looks like the top of the control column in a Belfast is a large clevis affair in which the base of the yoke slides into the clevis of the column and is then tightened up. For display the ideal would be to find a Belfast column that I could cut at an angle 6-10 inches below the base of the yoke. Many of the wheels/yokes in my collection are displayed that way….on a partial column. Anyone know where I can get a Belfast column…..sans yoke…:D ?

Latest project is done–this one a bit rarer. It’s the captain’s yoke from a Short’s Belfast. Only 10 were made in the 1960s. It’s a heavy-lift quad turboprop similar to the C-133. This yoke is a good sized piece of equipment !

Hi Visotka1…I’m late to the party here but…very nice work on your TU-16 wheel! I’m assuming you produced that cap with a 3D printer? Nice work! And again…nice work with all the buttons for the TU-144 project. I’m looking forward to seeing the wheel/yoke itself. As stated by others here, I too have never seen one for sale. That someone on a Russian forum was willing to pay that massive 14000 euro price for one suggests high desirability. Fly-Buy….thanks for posting the photo.
