Looking forward to your evidence why two dozens L-159s and ten MiG-21MFs are better than three squadrons of F-16AM/BMs. Tear down this argument, please.

You’re forgetting their Mig-29’s which have been upgraded with new communications equipment so they are partly NATO compatible.

    Chech dont have mig-29

if you are talking about the Czechs and Czech Air Force, it´s realy funny reading. Czech MiG-29s were sold in 1995 to Poland, and Mig-21MFN are already 6 years in museums… !!!

Now start to talk about 14 gripens and 28 Alcas, 211. tiger squadron (with gripens) win the Silver Trophy of Nato Tiger Association, Baltic Air Policing missions and often share on Nato exercises

    What are the avionics/cockpit onboard?

just classic analog instruments right now, because prototype, final avionics´ contractor isn´t selected yet.

The end of the gripens in the Czech Air Force?
Prime minister today announces that tender for new supersonic aircrafts will be declared this year. Prime minister said that there is no chance for gripens producer until it gives all informations about corruption with the cancelled deal about gripens buying in 2001 as well. If it not give the infos Czech republic will buy aircrafts from another producer for sure…

No offence guys but when I clicked on this thread, it was to read up on the L159 for Iraq story, I dont think anyone really cares for the geography and history lesson, I’m surprised a mod hasn’t sorted it out ! So back on topic, any new developments on this story then?

    you are right 🙂

Aware of that. There was additional interest from at least on additional CEE country as a LIFT/AJT option. Its time as a trainer is up. Of course for bombing brown people in dusty places it still works. But it’s not ITAR-free, which limits the market for such applications.

Btw, no such thing as a “Czech Kingdom”. Austerlitz was located in the Margraviate of Moravia, part of the Austrian Empire, and hereditary land of the Habsburgs.

I am Czech, I am historia, anf now I ascertain the true – I don´t know in what country I am living…. wait what????
history of Czechlands for you in short – Czech dukedom (the first written mention 805 year in Annales Fuldenses) , since 1085 Czech kingdom with first Czech king Vratislav II. (since 1212 hereditary Czech kingdom) up to the 1918, 1918 – 1938 – the first Czechoslovak republic, 1938-1939 the second Czecho-Slovak republik, 1939-1945 so called Protektorat Čechy a Morava, 1945 – 1993 Czechoslovakia, (1945-1948 – the third Czechoslovak republic, since 1961 Czechoslovak socialistic republic).

There weren´t any thing such „Austrian Empire“ but only „Habsburg´s Monarchy“ up to the 1867, later Austria – Hungaria. Only Germans and Austrians call the empire in wrong way „Austrian“ and everything from Habsburg´s Monarchy as „austrian“ – nice bull****. Czech kingdom, Hungarian kingdom and Austrian archdukedom as three main parts made Habsburg´s Monarchy. Habsburk emperor was a ruler in Czech kingdom as czech king, in Hungarian kingdom as hungarian king not as Austrian emperor up to the 1918 (Austrians rulers had even lower title because only Austrian archdukes, their power and title emperor were comming the first of all from titles Czech king and Hungarian king. In 1804 Franz II. wrongfully „invented“ title Erbkaiser von Österreich because Napolen sized german countries and he lost title Emperor of the Saint Rome Empire, but his status in every land of Habsburg´s Monarchy dind´t change. Every Habsburgs emperor hat to be crowned Czech king in order to rule in Czech Kingdom and in Hungary Kingdom as well. Yes, Habburg´s emperors formally and wrongfully during the time devided the Lands of the Czech Crown (which is official name of the Czech state since 1348 from czech king Karel I´s act, shortly Czech Kingdom) into several lands for better state against Czech noblemen and politicians, but it was still Czech Kingdom and they can rule in it as only like Czech kings. The Czechlands have countinuos state constitutional law histoty from the 9th century as only one from three states in Europe – France, Hungaria and the Czechlands. Yes part of Habsburg´s Monarchy for three centuries but only by person of Habsburg emperor still as Czech Kingdom with own government and land assembly (even during nazi occupation czech goverment with army and police existed)… short historical guide. That´s same like with the word „east“ – some people still are thinking in cold war way some even everything on the „east“ arose after WW1 way…

The L-159 has no future. The Czechs just got lucky to find a customer thanks to the lack of cheapish light subsonic fighter-attack models in the West. No more A-4 around, or single-seater Hawks. And the M346 isn’t yet weaponized.

maybe you will be suprised, there is some whisper about further customers. Anyway at least three certain contracs were canceled dute to US government – Venezuela, Bolivia and Nigeria. And I still compare “no future” for L159 with “no future” for Gripen – how many years gripen had to wait for the first foreign customer…
Not well-know fact is that Hungaian Air Force is actually user of Aero Vodochody L159B for several years, and now Czech Air force L159T1 as well. They have bought many many flying training hours on Aero Vodochody´s L159B for own pilots during 2009 and 2010 year.
And the latest info about five L159s sent in Spain – the firts three aircaft were dismatled, now they are in transport boxes in some hangar somewhere in Spain, tha last three are waiting for tranport in Spain – that´s pretty nice end of the “excelent” contract about C-295 – all new Czech Air force C-295 have huge problems with softwere and active defence systems, they are grounded and air force headquarter thinks about An-26´s recall in service (An-26 were discarded a month ago)

Exactly correct, it’s just a throwback to cold war terminology – everything behind the Iron Curtain was ‘East’. I don’t think people mean anything bad by it, it’s just a habit 🙂

yes, I know, but the Czechs are very allergic to cold war terminology “east” (more than 20 years after the end of cold war), the past has gone. Anyway iron curtain isolated the Czech state from its natural cultural and political territory – central and west Europe. the Czech people and politics saw the first Russians by own eyeball in the 19th century (battle of Slavkov in Czech Kingdom, you know that as Austerlitz). Slavic nations call the Czechs “Slavic Germans” – it means they are very different from other Slavic nations, because we have Celtic, Germanic (not German) and Slavic origin (and the latest anthropological research of Czech National Academy says that we are more than 50% Celts and Germanics, the rest is Slavic blood :-). That is why the Czechs are allergic to word “east”, it´s same like we still would call for example the Britons traitors or US men slavers – it´s history

Primeminister Nečas said that Iraq govermant has already choose L159 in November 2010, now the goverments still working on “political part” of contract. The deal is about “stored Czech Air Force L159s”, according Nečas words it has nothing to do with Aero Vodochody (and nobody has specified version of the aircrafts so far)
