yaeh Nicholas Winton, holder of the second highest decoration of the Czech Republic – Řád Tomáše Garrigua Masaryka, God bless you Mr. Winton
Let’s be honest, JSR’s, uh, interesting…views on things aside, as far as aviation is concerned, yeah, the Czechs are 2nd tier at best, today.
In 10 years we will still be hearing of the L-159s export attempts, and little else.
by the way, the Czech Republic is still aviation power, it´s the biggest producer and exporter of UL aircrafts per head in the world
I don’t know why you keep bringing this up. it is some past things they made that were very simpler in R&D and supply chain.
you can be sedate, Tatra is absolutely ok and profitable right now for new czech owners since march 2013 and working on thousands trucks for Saudi Arabia, Brazil armies and czech, russian and australian civilian customers right now. There are negotiation on further contracts as well. Anyway first official factory TATRA 815 BUGGYRA truck will start at Dakar rallye 2014 after several years, obviously companies in bad condition ordinarily don´t make race specials and don´t send them to race. Just don´t try to be czech industrial specialist with information of zero quality, quantity and from the past century…
OK, that is new to me.. Is the H80 an upodated version or just the good old M601 in a new coat?
well it´s further evolution of M-601, original make was M601H-80 from 2009, H75 and H85 derivatives are offered as well right now. Serial production of H80 has started in 2012, of H75 and H85 this year, about 150 engines were sold since 2012 already.
Camo really disturbing for the eyes on MiG-21 coded “7701”. Not really effective against ground surfaces or blue sky but more impressive against clouds.
It was strictly camo for air show displays…
Both of you are partially right. In all fairness, JSR has a point. Most of the mentioned are Czechoslovak products from the cold era. Czechs are not doing that much regarding engines anymore. Even the Al-25 of the L-39 was a Russian/Ukrainian design which resulted in DV-2 of the L-59 (both long gone, last time I have seen a mention about it was when two DV-2s were powering the first Yak-130 prototype).
Opting for the Garret F124 for the L-159 might have been a sensible solution at first glance but it pretty much killed all prospects of future indigenous engine development. Not speaking about the fact that this choice resulted in many perspective exports of the ALCA cancelled (Bolivia, Venezuela….)
Mentioning Walter M601 and using it as an argument today is, frankly, living in the glorious past.
not exactly, Walter M-601 is still in production and made in the Czechlands, but you can buy that under make “General Electric H80”, you know globalization, like Tatras in Israeli Army have idiotic make “ATC” in Tatra´s red logo
I am sure there are some niche products produced there but majority of products need foreign suppliers to assemble the finish product. than there is foreign ownership of assets that will control direction of business and labor training. think OMZ and United Group.
.
and it means what? What you can tell us? That tree “poor” czech industrial division of Škoda company are so good that is way they was bought by companies like Doosan? It easy to understand that czech owners in 2004 started restructuring of Škoda Holding and concentrate only on transport and electrick power industry because they wanted. Well they sold tree division and on the other hand bought eight czech transport industrial companies and futher bought or established in Russia, Poland, Hungary, Germany, China like Sibelektroprivod, Ganz – Škoda Electric, Škoda Deutschland etc. Anyway those thee formal Škoda divisions are still working in the Czech republic (products are made by Czechs, so they are czech companies), have own development section in the Czech republic, and pay taxes for czech state, so they are still parts of czech industry. “Majority of products need foreign suppliers to assemble the finish product” – yeah it fits on almoust every todays´modern industrial companies, just for example cars of marks VW, Audi, Bentley, Jaguar, Bugatti, Land Rover canot be competed without czech headligths, Ferraries without czech windscreens… etc etc…. some US or russian towns needs czech trams ant troleybuses, some police and army corps need czech weapons, some ESA satelites need czech componets etc. etc. just this offtopic discussion is over for me
Just defending your honour dude 😀
Shame about the L159 deal, but I think the Iraqi’s have to be commended for their strong line on value for money and open procurement.
I do love those Tatra air cooled V8:
I know and thank you 🙂
Me too, if commies didnt isolate Czechoslovakia for tens years, Tatra cars would be same as well known as mercedes, bmw, rolls royce etc, because they were on the world´s top even during commie occupation. Anyway Tatra trucks are still one of the best in the world, patented backbone tube undercarriage system with air suspension King Frame system with halfaxles are absolutely original and genial, Tatra is only one company in the world which can make aircooled diesel engines without electronic injection ****s of EURO 5 and 6 standard 🙂
and the jewel Tatra T-80 (1930), V12 watercooled, 5991 cm3, 89kW, top speed 140km/h

T-607 (F1 category). 1950, aircooled V8

Tatra 700 Ecorra, aircooled V8, 4,4l, top speed over 320 km/h, what the sound 🙂
I wish they put wing with higher sweep angle on L-169… Also, some nose rebuild in order to put bigger radar there will be nice, but probaly it (new nose) will cost too much.
well they already thought about new arrowy wing for L-159 in Aero, but they found out that it would be new plane actually, so it was cancelled for presumptive huge financial budget.
I know it suits your RUSSIA IS BEST fantasies that any nation that was once under the Soviet sphere must be some form of economic basket case but YOU are just plain wrong on this. I have one name to say “Skoda” stick that in your pipe and smoke it.The Czech republic has a very good industrial base. A case in point Skoda (heavy industries not the car maker) is selling multi axis CNC to Kawasaki Heavy Industries. Hardly the sign of an un-industrialised nation when they are selling precision equipment to one of the most high tech industrialised countries on the planet. Here is a Skoda UFK 1000 in the Kawasaki plant:
The Czech republic is famed for its heavy industry and technical R&D, there are members of this forum who are Czech I am in no doubt they would be highly insulted with your attitude to their nation.
.
I am not, because we have never perceive Russians seriously, just in Czechoslovakia during ruskies commie occupation everything “made in CCCP” was for fun and of poor quality (and today actually as well, but hardly you can buy anything “made in Russia” here, because nobody care about that). I cannot feel myself insulted by any Russians, because they long long time couldnt recognize real quality, because import into the CCCP was restricted even for “socialistic products”. Anyway why Russians still buy czech industrial products like Tatra trucks, plains, trams, trains, power plant components, electronics equipment etc. Products of “poor” czech industry we can find in US and EU military aircrafts, french military ships, czech military trucks for example in Israeli army etc etc. How many nations of 10 million inhabitants can be compared with us in industrial branch 🙂 and more how many nations can be compared with us in quantum and quality of industrial production per head 🙂 just we don´t care about forum talks evaluation, we know we can. But for sure czech companies and state cannot compete with huge industrial corporation and governments in embracery big shots like those in Iraq, Columbia, Peru, India, Venezuela, Costa Rica etc.
yes it’s official render. Yea no more wing tips tanks, because L-169 will get new “wet” wings with internal tanks, so it has longer flying range than L-159A
Aero Vodochody is working on new trainer and light attack aircraft Aero L-169 ATJ. The prototype’s existence was officially announced. It’s two seater advanced trainer made on L-159 base with new wings, strictly czech electronics and avionics and it can be fitted with ukrainian or US engine (till not specified yet). Actually it’s result of many US L-159 sale obstruction causes…
