After nearly 30 years surely it is time to change the markings on Sally B?
I can understand it generated profits from merchandising, publicity etc from the Memphis Belle movie for a while, but these days outside of aviation circles that movie is pretty much forgotten.
Ah, Hanover Street. I remember the scene where the B-25 is struck by German flack. Top secret German flack that can kill everyone on the plane with one shot apart from the two main characters.
I should imagine that Youtuber’s comment is just an ill informed opinion from an arm chair enthusiast who thinks they know everything but know very little.
The replies to that comment sum it up…
The nose of PN323 needs to go to Elvington
I have been following the restoration on the NMUSAF Facebook page. Found it infuriating the amount of people asking if/when it would fly, or the arm chair experts demanding that it SHOULD fly.
Great that the museum is finally getting a real WW2 aircraft.
Maybe the Hurricane under restoration in Cambridgeshire could join it on display at Hawkinge one day?
I think this particular B-17 is fairly rare among the surviving Forts, being a Boeing built example rather than Douglas or Lockheed-Vega.
Hope that they get it and the B-24 under cover in the not too distant future.
Allison engined Mustang?
So glad that KB882 is finally undercover. Now for KB839…
Maybe it is time to get rid of the B-25 in the bomber hall?
I can understand that the B-17 serves to show the role of the USAAF in the UK in WW2, but the B-25 was not flown on operations from the UK by the USAAF.
At least paint the B-25 in RAF colours.
I think Karl Kjarsgaard is a miracle worker for all that he has done for Canadian Halifaxes, I just wish there was someone who could bring another example to the UK.
Of course the UK had the late Ian Robinson and his team to thank for the YAM Halifax, but they were more limited by budget and what was available at the time.
So, other than HR871 and LW170, are there any other Halifaxes that could be recovered? (And brought to the UK for full restoration… I can dream)
Just my opinion, but the Hercules engined Halifax was the best looking British bomber of the war, after the Mosquito.
I didn’t realise that the tail had been recovered. So when Liberty Belle had it’s unfortunate accident, I thought the tail of the Belle would be added to this Fort to create Liberty Belle II.
Happily I have read they are both being restored/re built by Brooks as seperate projects.
I would like to see the nose of PN323 on the YAM Halifax, and the new build nose currently on the YAM Halifax taken off and used as a walk through exhibit.
I can dream.
