    Thanks for this. The old photo doesn’t seem to show any aircraft, either this was because there was a period after the war when the site was completely cleared, or perhaps the photo pre-dates the war as I think there were aircraft on site continuously until the 1990’s.

    Interestingly, I spoke to an elderly local resident who said that not all the aircraft arrived by road and rail, some were flown into a short strip that existed there at the time of the war.

    Yes I have thank-you, they don’t hold any information but pointed me to the National Archives where the station diaries are held. Unfortunately, on contacting the National Archives they advised that the diaries were on loan to a Government department. The diaries have been requested and hopefully I’ll get to see them at some point.
