My eventual choice was an 04 plate Skoda Fabia 1.9TDi, in 10 days I’ve done several hundred miles with absolutely no problems at all, and I’ve been averaging about 55mpg.
Hi there…
If you need any advice regarding VAG cars… ie.. The Volkswagan Audi Group, which includes Seat, Skoda etc… see the link in my auto sig..
Im a moderator on there and know my fair share..
In regards to the car you purchased, the PD 1.9tdi unit is a good solid engine, ensure the cam belt and water pump is replaced @ around 60k miles or 4/5 years and keep your eye on the EGR valve for any leaks.

Thats good news……..
Leeds Bradford international airport has re-opened after a suspicious package found there was believed to be a hoax.
The package was discovered on a Pakistani International Airlines plane which was on the runway, Sky sources say.
The airport was evacuated – but police later gave the airport the all-clear.
Man arrested over bomb hoax.

Cheers for the link
The only thing that “most” airlines advise is to drink plenty of water when flying as we all know… (i think the recommended allowance is something link half a litre per hour or something..)
But stopping people going to the loo, the drinks sales will go down but possibly causing customers to not drink at all which has its own problems…..
I think the real advice here is for us blokes….. If you buy a drink on board keep the bottle for other use!!!! 😎
If FR start doing this they have really gone too low…..
Rick
Sounds more like he was on drugs than needed a fag!
As been in my late 20’s.. i never were on a flight were people were allowed to smoke on board… i can only imagine it was pretty grim!!
Rick
Rikt……….
Why despise the trains?? Sounds as though they are doing a good job for you.
For an overland journey of 250 miles or less the train has to win on all counts……..
Planemike
Planemike,
its not really a problem with the train itself, its more the fact i tend to be on everyone which they decide to cancel and dont reallocate your reversed seat…. so you end up standing… (the other week i stood from Kings Cross to Leeds,,,, im sure the train was overloaded with PAX.. you just could not move!!)
In regards to the 250 miles or less…. I also use the LBA to EDI or MAN to EDI.. that route on the plane is a lot better than the train time wise..(The seneic view on the train as you get closer the boarder is rather nice though!!
If im going anywhere but the capital now i will tend to drive..
Its a shame this route has been axed from a staff point of view etc… but there is always MAN i guess from a PAX point of view….
Rick
When are these cuts taking effect, as I’ve got two flights from LHR-LBA. One in a few days and another in April
As per the BMI website.. — Not good News for your April Flight…..
Please note our service from Leeds Bradford to London Heathrow will cease from 28 March 2009.
http://www.flybmi.com/bmi/en-gb/index.aspx.
(just do a quick search for any date in March on the route and you get the above message.)

“Hey, guess where I am……….A PLANE”
I think it would be good to as a novelty… or until the bill arives!
Just one thing to add, my local is LBA, but i have found myself using the train from Leeds to London Kings Cross recently due to cost cut backs if you get the right fare etc..
The train only take’s just over 2 hours into Kings Cross, which is not much longer than the overall flight time from arriving at the airport to reaching centre of London…. (plus taking into account my time of getting to LBA plus parking for the day @ £25.00)
Yes.. i perfer to be higher than 5 feet off the ground as i despise the trains!!

Passengers and crew members have been evacuated from a British Airways plane after its front undercarriage failed on landing in London.
All of the 67 passengers and five crew are safe after the incident at City Airport involving flight 8456 from Amsterdam.
Fire crews were called to the airport just after 7.40pm when the four-engine Avro RJ 146 aircraft had already been evacuated.
BA said passengers escaped down emergency slides which were deployed as a precaution.
A spokesman for the London Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 7.45pm to reports of an incident at London City Airport.
“We sent six ambulance crews, two single responders in cars, two duty officers and we treated four patients for minor injuries.
“No one was taken to hospital.”
A spokeswoman for London City Airport said the plane had damage to the nose wheel but had landed on the runway.
She added: “The 67 passengers were evacuated and we are now waiting for air traffic investigators to arrive.”
The airport has been closed and flights are being diverted.
Another sweety with a great voice has arrived, Alexandra Burke, who will no doubt be put down by forum members here as another product of that crappy tv programme.
But do I care?:p
Anyone who watched last night’s XFactor must have been stirred, not shaken, by her duet with Beyoncé.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bV-ERgAHqXoWhatever anyone has to say about the programme, it occasionally finds good talent.
Alexandra’s performance of the new single, Hallelujah, by Leonard Cohen, is way better than JLS’ version.
It’s almost certain to top the charts for Christmas 2008.
MP3 version is available for download now.I have to agree with Simon Cowell, who’s favourite Alexandra performance of the series was Candyman.
Skip the intro and judges comments, song, 1:41 to 4:00.
