The plane had around 100 people on board, according to Russian news agencies.

The RIA news agency, which quoted the press service of the US airbase in Bishkek, said the plane crashed on take-off but gave no further details.

Cheers Grey Area for moving this across…

Just read the below from Sky News..

Two crew members have died in a Army helicopter crash in Devon.

Squirrel helicopter hit power linesOne crew member was pronounced dead at the scene while the other one was airlifted to hospital but died later.

The craft, an Army training Squirrel helicopter, came down in fields near Kingscott, Torrington, north Devon.

“An Army training helicopter crashed today in Devon. Sadly, we can confirm that both service personnel on board have died.

“Our thoughts are with their families and friends at this difficult time. The next of kin are currently being informed. We will confirm further details once this process has been completed.”

Power lines were brought down by the crash, police said.

Power company Western Power Distribution said power was lost to 11,700 homes in the area went down.

Two rescue helicopters, from RMB Chivenor in north Devon and Portland Coastguard in Dorset, and the Devon Air Ambulance were sent to the crash site, Swansea coastguard said.

A spokesman said there were only two people on board the helicopter when it crashed.

An experienced flying instructor was killed and three people were injured when two RAF Squirrels collided mid-air at Tern Hill, near RAF Shawbury in Shropshire, in January 2007.

Four months later a millionaire businessman and his son died along with two other men as they returned from a European Cup football match when their civilian Twin Squirrel helicopter crashed in Wansford, Cambridgeshire.

And former world rally champion Colin McRae was killed with his son and two family friends when the Twin Squirrel he was piloting came down in the grounds of his family home in Lanarkshire, Scotland, in September last year.

The Squirrel comes with a single or twin engine, costs around £500,000 and can be fitted out to a luxurious specification by its maker, Eurocopter.

It is the training helicopter of choice for the Ministry of Defence’s Helicopter Flying School.

    Very Sad news….

In regards to my comment earlier about power lines, It would appear the info posted from a news source was incorrect to a certain extent… (I thought they were relating to the mass power outages the UK has had over the last few days in caertain areas..)

Thoughts go out to all involved..

An army helicopter, with two crew members on board, has crashed in north Devon.

An army spokesman confirmed the helicopter went down near Great Torrington.

A rescue team from RAF Chivenor has been scrambled and Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue has dispatched crews.

The helicopter came down near Kingscott, Torrington at 1545 BST. Police said two crew members have been injured, but no buildings are damaged.

Roads in the area have been closed.

About 12,000 homes in the area lost electricity supplies about the time of the accident, but Western Power Distribution said it had switched to an alternative supply.

The power company was unable to confirm if the incidents were related.

    After reading this bit…

About 12,000 homes in the area lost electricity supplies about the time of the accident, but Western Power Distribution said it had switched to an alternative supply.

The above quote regarding power is a strange statment to make…..

Quote from Home Alone 2… ….

[at the airport waiting for their luggage passing Kevin’s bag]
Kate McCallister: Give this to Kevin.
Aunt Leslie McCallister: Give this to Kevin.
Rod McCallister: Give this to Kevin.
    Sondra McCallister: Kevin.
Buzz McCallister: Give this to Kevin.
Megan McCallister: Give this to Kevin.
Linnie McCallister: Give this to Kevin.
Tracy McCallister: Give this to Kevin.
Fuller McCallister: Here you go Kevin.
[startled when he sees the elderly couple]
    Fuller McCallister: Kevin’s not here.
    Tracy McCallister: Kevin’s not here.
    Linnie McCallister: Kevin’s not here.
    Megan McCallister: Kevin’s not here.

Aunt Leslie McCallister: Kevin’s not here.
    Kate McCallister: Kevin’s not here.
    Peter McCallister: WHAT?
Kate McCallister: [laughs then suprised] KEVIN!
    [faints]

Officer Bennett: Has the boy ever run away from home?
    Peter McCallister: No.
Officer Bennett: Has he ever been in a situation where’s been on his own?
Kate McCallister: [Kate shakes her head. Peter gives her a look] As a matter of fact, this has happened before. It’s become sort of a McCallister family travel tradition.
Peter McCallister: Funnily enough, we never lose our luggage.
[They both laugh, and knock on the wooden desk]
Kate McCallister: [Officer Bennett does not laugh] He was left at home, by accident, last year.
Peter McCallister: That’s what my wife meant when she said this has become a McCallister family travel tradition.

Anyway… its not funny that this happened in reality!!

Great shots there Rob, as said above, looks like you and your new “tool” are getting on great!!

But you don’t need to upload so many shots next time! Users with lower bandwiths may struggle to see them.

More photo’s the better i say!

    OFFLINE mode..

I have used my NOKIA N73 and N95 in flight in the OFFLINE mode for the use of the MP3 player..

The OFFLINE modes on the above Nokia turns off any radio freq, blue tooth, infrared etc..

The ONLY problem with these phones is you have to put it into OFFLINE mode before you take off.. as when you power the phone on it does not give you the option…

I have used mind and no FA has ever mentioned anything to me and i have left in on the tray in front of me..

Look at FR, they were looking at allowing you to use your mobile on board anyway..

i would like the idea of been able to use it onbard… however on the other hand i would hate to be sat next to some one for 3 hours who is chatting..

One thing i do like about flying on business is that its the only time you can really stop working and have an excuse to turn the phone off!! but then theres the laptop to work on and catch up!

its a sad day following this event.

Heart goes out to all familes and friends involved,

Former British Touring Car racer David Leslie and sportscar team boss Richard Lloyd were among five people killed in a plane crash in Kent this afternoon, according to sources close to Autosport.

Their private Cessna Citation 501 aircraft was headed for the south of France where Leslie was due to drive Lloyd’s Apex Motorsport Jaguar XKR in an FIA GT3 equalisation test at Nogaro tomorrow.

The pilot made a mayday call to Biggin Hill Airfield, near Farnborough, reporting severe engine vibrations, but the plane crashed into the corner of a housing estate seconds later. The plane’s two pilots and three passengers were killed, but nobody on the ground was injured.

As a big motor sport fan, the last 6 months in Avaition has procdued some upsetting news…
