Current information from the Volcanic Ash Advice Centre (VAAC) suggests that a ‘no fly zone’ will have to be imposed over Ireland tomorrow that will affect Dublin, Shannon Galway, Sligo, Ireland West (knock), Donegal, Cork and Kerry. No flights will operate in or out of these airports until at least 1300hrs local tomorrow.

Over-flights of Ireland from the UK and Europe will NOT be impacted tomorrow. Flights in mainland Europe will operate normally.

I think I will have to give them a call but does anybody know where the aircraft that is flying the (15.05 04/05/10) Leeds Bradford – Ibiza route is at the moment ?

    Cheers

    Ben

I will see if i can find out.

The first aircraft back to LHR came in from Vancouver and where is the ash cloud covering, Canada will be interesting to see if there are any problems with the engines after flying for several hours through the ash cloud

It will be interesting to see if there are any effects over the next few days..

BAW282 from LAX looks like the next one into LHR…

Also.. TCX901L from HER to LGW, and BAW2154 from BGI..

EDIT — Loads of AC now on route now to UK airports….. 28 BA flights are due into LHR this evening… (as per statement from Mr Walsh..)

Planes have started arriving at airports including Heathrow after a ban on UK airspace due to the volcanic ash cloud was lifted.

All UK airports have been allowed to re-open after experts reassessed the risk to planes from volcanic ash.

Manufacturers have now raised the tolerance levels that aircraft have in low ash density areas, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said.

Further info on CAA website and next update on NATS due at 22:00 but no update as yet.. (22:08)

Lets all hope that the doors stay open for a while now………. Until next time…….

After reading a lot of the media reports this morning, Tuesday may not be a good day for the London Airports….

    Question….

MAN is due to open at 9:00 on Tuesday morning, how on earth does someone even begin to try and pull a schedule together with all the flights ??

Is the routine to just try and stick with the normal schedule for the day and allow airlines to request additional flights ??

Im no expert…. but heres my thoughts..

    I have two questions.

    1. Why have a number of airlines covered all the intakes on the engines of their grounded aircraft if flying is considered by them to be risk free in terms of the ash cloud?

    2. Why is that most money making of airlines, Ryanair, among those who seem most reluctant to take any risk in reinstating their flights?

    Regards,

    kev35

1 – Is this not normal practice for any aircraft which is to be on the ground for any longer than normal period of time, I recall an incident which was due to blocked pitot, (if thats the correct term) where some insects made a nest in them on an aircraft which had been grounded for some period of time..

2 – Safety first… plus.. O-Leary today said around 50 of their aircrafts will be flying empty to get in positions before the first PAX’s board.

I have heard that Emirates is laying on an extra flight on saturday to try and shift their backlog.

that would be good from my sisters point of view who is due out @ 14:00 on Friday to Dubai with them.

Flight showing as cancelled now….. flight EK018
