NATS have increased the ban till 13:00 Friday now….
Has anyone here on the forum been affected by this today?
My sister is due to fly out of MAN to Dubai with Emirates @ 14:00 on Friday, its not looking good for her at the moment, even if this ash clears there’s going to be some back logs to clear…
Place your bets… when do you think she will be airborne??

Statement on Icelandic volcanic eruption: Thurs April 15, 14:00
The cloud of volcanic ash is now spread across the UK and continuing to travel south. In line with international civil aviation policy, no flights other than agreed emergencies are currently permitted in UK controlled airspace. Following a review of the latest Met Office information, NATS advises that these restrictions will remain in place in UK controlled airspace until 0700 (UK time) tomorrow, Friday 16 April, at the earliest. We will review further Met Office information and at 2000 today (UK time) we will advise the arrangements that will be in place through to 1300 (UK time) tomorrow.
We continue to work closely with airports, airlines, and the rest of Europe to understand and mitigate the implications of the volcanic eruption.

I guess all this no-flying will make the eco-mentalists happy – mind you, they’ll probably find a reason to whinge about volcanic ash instead! :diablo:

Quality post… 😎
This went up on the NATS website half an hour ago:
Statement on Icelandic volcanic eruption: Thurs April 15, 09:30
From midday today until at least 6pm, there will be no flights permitted in UK controlled airspace other than emergency situations. This has been applied in accordance with international civil aviation policy. We continue to monitor the situation with the Met Office and work closely with airline customers and adjoining countries.
and…
The Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) has said Irish airspace will be closed from 12:00 to 20:00.
Wasnt there a similar problem about two weeks ago although not as disruptive? .

REYKJAVIK, Iceland – Iceland’s latest volcanic eruption is coming to an end, scientists said Monday — and the unexpected tourist boom that lifted this recession-weary country’s financial fortunes may be up in smoke as well.
Shows how much the expert’s know!
Is not looking good in the UK this morning..
Wonder how long the ash will stay around for…….
I know some members like going to the viewing park, but i prefer to go to the free sections… ie down the side of 23L..
Rick
You’ll be on the inside of the plane, Tommy, so what difference does it make?
If it was me, I would be wanting to try and get on an aircraft type/model I have not been on before or even just to make sure the overall experience of on-board service, comfort, IFE etc was good for that type of flight.
Tommy, you are the rarest of the rare, an airline customer in the western world who actually looks beyond ticket price.
I think you may find that for the general public that is the case, however omn a personal choice thats not my thought process.. take a read of the trip report section for some prime examples of mileage running and flights on certain AC.
Tommy, If i was you…. I would want to go with the 747, however with the recent BA strikes… i would choose another airline at this moment in time…Maybe the Virgin would be a good option…
Rick
Wouldn’t an answer be to redesign cabins so that locker space was minimal?
Thats a catch 22, a lot of the budget’s want the cabin storage as it increases the turn around time compared to 190 bags in the hold…
Many big corporates do not permit their key staff to travel in one vehicle, aircraft, or sometimes even stay in the same hotel.
I am sure many governments do the same.
That was my exact thought this morning when the media were reporting the PAX regarding the tragic news.
