An Air France passenger jet with 228 people on board is missing after dropping off radar over the Atlantic off the Brazilian coast, a Paris airport official has said.
“We are very worried,” he said. “The plane disappeared from the screens several hours ago.
“It could be a transponder problem, but this kind of fault is very rare and the plane did not land when expected.”
Air traffic control lost contact with the Airbus A330 at 6am GMT after it took off from Rio de Janeiro bound for Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris.
It was due to land in the French capital at 9.10am GMT.
Airport authorities have set up a ‘crisis cell’ at Charles de Gaulle.
The people on board the jet are 216 passengers and 12 crew.
More to follow…
It not looking good…..

I have to confess, this is always my concern, if somebody pays in advance and turns up on the day and is an 80-year old frail lady, what do they do then?
The cabin crew will then move her one row back and ask the person behind if suitable if they would like to sit there. Also, the old lady will not get a refund for the seat.
When booking the exit row seats, you have to agree to the T&C’s, if you dont, it states you will be seated elsewhere.

Taken from the headline…
launched legal action against manufacturer Boeing accusing it of operating a “dangerous” aircraft.
Was it not operated by Kenya Airways??
I think the families need to push to get that report out first to find out the reasons behind the crash before looking at sue’ing anyone.
People who are stupid enough to sue an airline because the plane hits turbulence are usually the kind of people stupid enough take their seat belt off as soon as the sign is switched off.
Paul
Hi Paul,
i understand what your saying, and i always leave my seatbelt on when seated on any flight due to this very fact..
However… how many non frequent flyer’s are out there who only go on a plane once a year at the most, on a summer holiday?
Many of these non-Freq’s trust the pilot’s judgment and the illuminated sign above their head.
If the seatbelt light is not on, most non-freq pax must think if the pilot has turned the seatbelt light off, it must be safe and dont need to wear it..
I think airline seatbelt policy should be like in a car, you should be forced to wear it while seated.
Maybe for example…… . the seatbelt sign is on all the time like the smoking sign, and then an additional light/sign which means no standing/walking/No going to the bathroom………. i dont know…. just a thought..
Until a process were you have to wear it compulsory at all times, i dont think you can really call people stupid for taking their seltbelt off when the sign has gone off??
Understand where im coming from or am i off the point here???
Going back on topic, This is happening more and more were people are getting hurt, but is not making the media therefore not becoming common knowledge.
Rick
Hi,
A random question… Does anyone know if all Flybe offices are located in airports? I know the Exeter office is, but is that the same for all their others?
cheers
One post wonder…..
Why are you asking if you dont mind me saying..?? Reason im asking you is that you could be plotting a protest outside all their offices etc etc………….. therefore my lips are sealed.
I suggest using Google ……

The wedding photo will be nice….
I can picture it now…. Groom and Bride stood there smiling for photos… and then in the background above the Bride the big orange words of “EASY” ๐ฎ
Classy….

Economic climate no doubt, I believe the companies are now officially ‘one’ so that’s the important bit. Repainting aircraft etc costs money and I’m sure Thomson is doing it’s best to save money, as are most people ;).
I have just rolled in from MBJ this morning on TOM102, operated by FCA.
Once we landed the pilot thanked the crew over the PA system thanking them for working their final flight in FCA colours and wanted to say thank you on behalf of FCA.
He advised that the cabin crew will have their new “colours” from tommorrow…
Rick
The time has come………..
Heading out in the morning, all packed with DLSR im hand lugage, the hotel we are staying at is only 10 mins from the airport so should be able to get some nice photos!!
Trip report and photos to follow!
Bye for now!

Its over…. all safe..
A gunman who was holding six crew members hostage on board a passenger jet at an airport in Jamaica has surrendered.
Police said the man had been disarmed and arrested.
The remaining hostages – the crew of a CanJet plane on a runway in Montego Bay – have been released unharmed, government officials said.
The rest of the passengers were released earlier and taken to nearby Cornwall Regional Hospital, some suffering from shock.
The suspect, believed to be armed with a handgun, is a Jamaican national aged about 20, according to information minister Daryl Vaz, who described him as “mentally challenged”.
The man demanded to be flown to Cuba after he forced his way on board the charter flight on the tarmac at Sangster International Airport.
He gained access through a security entrance around 10.30pm local time (0330 GMT) using several fake indentification cards.
At least one shot was fired inside the Canada-bound plane, according to reports but police said no one was wounded.
“Flight 918 was carrying 182 passengers and crew,” Canadian charter airline Canjet said in a statement.
“All passengers have been safely removed from the aircraft, but CanJet crew and the armed man remain on board.
“Our understanding is that no harm has come to anyone remaining on board,” it added.
Jamaican Prime Minister Bruce Golding and his national security minister, Dwight Nelson, travelled to Montego Bay to take charge of the situation in the Caribbean nation’s prime tourist resort.

MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica โ Six crew members on board a Canadian airliner were being held hostage at gunpoint early Monday after a lone gunman with “mental issues” forced his way through security and stormed the jet as it was preparing to depart Jamaica for Halifax.
All the passengers who were to be on board Canjet Airlines flight 918, scheduled to leave Montego Bay at 11 p.m. Sunday night local time, were safely off the plane, said Sangster International Airport spokeswoman Elizabeth Scotton.
Jamaica’s Information Minister Daryl Vaz spoke to CNN
ยป Click here to read a statement from Canjet“There are no passengers involved at this time, and there’s no passengers on board the aircraft,” Scotton said in a telephone interview with The Canadian Press. In all, 182 people had been scheduled to be aboard, the airline said.
In a statement released early Monday, Jamaican police said two of the Boeing 737’s eight crew members had been released, while the rest remained on board.
“The passengers have all been debriefed by the Jamaican police and have been placed in local hotels,” the statement said.
The situation was still ongoing, Scotton said, adding that police were on the scene and had cordoned off the airport. She said no injuries have been reported.
Most of the passengers had not yet boarded the flight when the situation developed on the tarmac, Scotton said, although police said dozens of passengers were briefly held hostage before being released.
Police said negotiations were ongoing with the gunman, who apparently managed to force his way through security and board the plane about 40 minutes before it was scheduled to take off.
Daryl Vaz, Jamaica’s information minister, told CNN the gunman was believed to be a young Jamaican man in his 20s with “mental issues.” He said the man was demanding to be taken to Cuba.
Vaz said the man’s father had also been brought in to assist with negotiations.
Jamaican Prime Minister Bruce Golding was also in Montego Bay and involved in the negotiations. Police said Golding also met with passengers and “assured them that everything possible was being done to enable them to return home as early as possible.”
Prime Minister Stephen Harper, who happened to be in Jamaica for a one-day visit, was awakened early Monday with news of the incident, said an official in his office.
The official said the PMO was monitoring developments and was “deeply concerned.”
“A member of the RCMP as well as the management and consular services officer at the Canadian High Commission in Jamaica are en route to Montego Bay to provide assistance,” the official said.
Look like its a mental issue problem rather than terrorist related.
