Cool thanks for linking my pic, the hits have gone through the roof :):):);)
More have been added now with some very interesting shots from Eastchurch
I think its in bad taste to post these.
🙁
Why?
Out of interest why was there no fire? was it pure luck or did the pilot switch things off before bailing out?
I for one didn’t know, not very often I peruse this forum nowadays….I remember how hard it was for my old ATC Squadron to raise funds for a minibus, they managed it about 5 years after I left…good luck to them 🙂
Seems about right to me, bear in mind the F.6 cockpit in a recent auction sold for £10K (plus fees to be added), then factor in the rarity value of this example.
not what i’m saying….my point being (and i should have said in the first place) a complete (minus engines) Lightning was sold last year for less than 7.5K…yes I know the expense of moving it up keep, space etc etc…but it all seems a bit wrong!!!
7.5K my god cockpits are extremely over priced!!!
Exactly – the micro-minority always seem to get the attention. Like the 6 people who complain about something on a TV show watched by 5 million. Now if 500,000 complained, it would still be a minority, but one to which attention should be paid.
Bring on the Merlins, I say!!:D
If 500,000 complained about a TV show the producers would rub there hands in glee knowing they had a hit!!!! and yes that show GLEE got around 150,000 complaints when it aired in the USA now we have to put up with it!!!!
The Major flies his Spitfire over Skeggy most weeks, wonderfull thing to hear and nobody gives a monkeys **** about the noise, I have heard complaints that he never flies it low enough though!!!
Skegness:):):) or Malta
Skegness:):):) or Malta
I was there a couple of years ago and hired a car for a day trip up into the mountains, right above the main cruise port.
Some pics for you of a rather sad ex museum which was not open, but seems to have some wartime vehicles parked up. Poss. German (not my bag)
Have a good treasure hunt.
Well the M.A.N truck is definitely German, though I am not sure if it is WW2. The other truck doesn’t look very kraut, but that’s a feeling rather than knowledge.
The AA gun is Bofors, not German WW2 kit, more likely British.
I have suddenly realised I have no idea how the Germans eventually left Crete. I certainly can’t recall an allied invasion, so I’m guessing they just went home when the final whistle blew?
Moggy
Going by the photos i would say they were used in the film Captain Corelli’s Mandolin which i’m sure was filmed on Crete
Not unexpected its been in the rumour mill for years….
They just love any form of chocolate, leaving enough to go in/on the trap is the hard part!!!
