I do agree that the price of a ticket can be affordable but you’d have to pay me a lot more than that to go. 🙂

😀 ill have to offer my spare ticket to someone else 😉

Planejunky’s valid objections noted, I agree with John. Some people do genuinely like opera, my brother in law included. However, I’m convinced that most people go because they think it will impress others. How much did the Lottery Fund give to the Royal Opera House and the South Bank tent? A little perspective is in order in my opinion.

I’ve never been myself but would love to go. I shouldnt divert the topic towards the Royal Opera House too much but do you realise that tickets can go for less than ten pounds? This makes it incredibly accessible don’t you think? Something im sure the Lottery people made a condition of supporting the refurbishment. Give it a go perhaps? You never know you might like it.

Anyhow, no one is forced to buy a lotto ticket 🙂

I wonder if XH558 is a success for the HLF if it will open the floodgates for groups like B17 Preservation.

Careful what you say, I’m disabled myself and am very much a supporter of the warbird movement. I would much rather the money went to good causes that help PEOPLE than chunks of metal. So I assume then that disabled veterans of all ages (many injured in Falklands, Bosnia, Iraq etc) would not get your support then?

Im sure John C didnt mean that BUT………as soon as this thread started I knew a comment like that would crop up, blaming other organisations or groups (in this case a completely fictional one) is no way to go about things. Finding a scapegoat is always the easiest way to go. Positive campaign is the best way to go about keeping Sally B in the air.

John, lets do something positive, many good ways of campaigning have been suggested already. Write a letter and listen to Cavalleria Rusticana while you do it, may calm yoor feelings against those black lesbian disabled vegetarian organic sandle sanctuaries that upset you so much 😉

    best regards Steve.

Paul, thanks very much for posting that. Please could you explain how you go about converting a camera for use with the telescope? How difficult is this?

I dug one of my old books out today and found that the Hurricane was on the BAPC register, number 73, (replica, Qeens Head, Bishops Stortford)

Do you happen to know the current registration or anyone with a book of serial numbers with a BAPC register in?

    Regards.

    BP 😀 😀

im confused, I thought the BAPC inventory of aircraft was to label significant aircraft, if so, why on earth would an FSM Hurri be on there?

It’s a pity not all us licence payers (who pay for BBC 4) are allowed watch the channel.

get a digi box for freeview, it’s free to the tune of approx £60 odd pounds 😉

I understand your frustration, its a shame it cant be broadcast conventionally.

Upon re-evaluation, I really think this film is excellent until Franta leaves Czechoslovakia at the beginning and from when he returns. The rest I still find quite average give ro take the odd scene. Some scenes occasional have shades of ‘Closely Watched Trains’ and also of Giuseppe Tornatore films. Its once they get to the mountainous, pine forest covered Kent that the narrative seems to get a little stale.

I’d love to see war films cover on the bare reality of war, narratives that reflect the stories that I and no doubt others on the forum have heard from veterans rather than the bigglesesque stiff upper lip tally ho approach.
