I know why don’t are European forum friends start sending Red Bull conplaints,I know here in my home town that I’ve been waging a one man war against Red Bull because of there policy, i have been able to get red Bull removed form 25 stores because all I’ve done is taken in a photo of the B-25 and show them and explain to the owners what they are doing. We have also sent letters of complaints to Red Bull USA and Red Bull International. Maybe someone over there can have the courage to tell Red Bull sorry till you paint your aircraft that right way you will not be attending are Airshow, try it and see what happens and when you do make sure the press gets the story and see how long bad press Red Bull takes before they change the paint schemes. See folks instead of complaining about what Red Bull is doing we need to act as a group.
    Cheers

Sadly Crazymainer, i did just the opposite and sent Red Bull a long email congratulating them on what they’ve done (I aslo cheekily hinted there was a vulcan that might need some money 🙂 ) I got a nice personal reply which sounded like it came from someone who had passion for aviation which was enough for me.

There is no ‘right’ way to paint an aircraft. The aircraft can’t just be seen as inextricably linked with the second world war. I can’t help but feel that some aircraft designers may be quite chuffed that their aircraft have found other roles once their useful military life has expired.

Its sad that a company comes along and ploughs lots of money into operating historic aircraft and then you suggest we start a crusade to get them bad press… You know, once they’ve finished with them they can always be painted back.

still your entitled to your opinion,

    best regards, steve

East Kirkby sounds good, must admit a daytime run would be better for me but I can imagine a lot of people would go to both the daytime run and the night one.

I had to explain later that it was Katherine Hepburn – not Audrey (were they related BTW???)

    No they were not related

Glad you enjoyed your day. Happy Birthday!

I saw the film in Leeds the day it came out but im going again tomorrow because the print I saw was horrendous in Leeds, one of the reels was drained of green and the projector was slightly out of focus too. Couldn’t believe it.

Put very well James. I think thats the point I wanted to make earlier but couldnt quite put it as succintly.

Neilly, I wouldnt be too worried about people forgetting what happened in the period 1939-1945. Interest in the second world war seems to be thriving particularly with the interest that television and film has shown the subject. Whilst these films (Pearl Harbour for example) and tv shows (the channel islands drama on itv which i sadly forget the name of and ‘Night Flight’ ) are not always accurate, they are still respectful and generate further interest in the subject.

I’ve been told that the RAF museum is going to produce and publish a book showing the cockpit interiors from their display aircraft at Hendon and Cosford (Similar to the calender they produced this year) does anyone know any more about this or the publication date?

    they’ve got interiors! 😮 😉

it seems to me that putting aircraft into peace time livery is all part of “don’t mention the war” mentality.

They’ll have a fit then when they remember what the museum is called! 🙂

Seriously Neilly, don’t you think its important to show how crew trained for war as well as how they actually went to war. The truth about joe public really is that they they will either go and remember a few highlights (concorde, spitfire etc or maybe even the mossie now that its so unmissable!) and then probably not visit again or it may a spark a genuine interest or even just a little interest which will lead them to know a little more about what the mossie did.

I think it looks great. Fantastic work.

Hey guys lets chill out out a bit – lets just remind ourselves of where these aircraft really belong, regardless of whether they’re over Iraq, the US or Europe – courtesy of the OFMC and Mr John Dibbs – Stunning!

That is indeed a great picture. Interesting scheme.

David, I really couldnt care less about whether or not they had WMD. Our government clearly wanted Saddam after the last war and this was only the excuse they needed to go back a second time. I didnt have the same enthausiasm to see our soldiers killed as some but supported our troops in the war. How the Fury was aquired really doesnt matter to me and until someone owns up or someone has info on how it was aquired From the horses mouth so to speak then we will never know. Lets just hope it was aquired legally. But on saying that if we were at war and were the conquering nations then surely things such as these are fair game to liberate.

Or perhaps they were locally own after the forces bugged out so were bought for mere tuppence.

Does anyone actually know if it has been aquired and how etc.

Hatton, Selfish or not that is how I feel about things these days. People are far to nice these days not enough people standing up and saying how they feel these days without thinking about offending people. I have grown tired of the world as is and would like more people to say what they mean and mean what they say.Honesty is the best policy and all that.

Now how much bull in one paragraph was that.

Hatton, I hope that the aircraft was obtained legally but I would rather see it looked after and in a museum or in the air than lying in a desert somewhere where the local wildlife go to pee on it every morning. This is why I dont really care how it has been obtained.

Merlin3945, I have no problem with you expressing your opinion, its just that your way of thinking completely baffles me.I too would love to see them in the air but by your way of thinking it would be perfectly reasonable for an aircraft restorer to go up to Sandtoft with a low loader and take the pick of the aircraft because they have more will and resources to restore it. It just doesn’t work that way, you can’t just steal ( again, this is theoretical because we dont know the full facts of what is goig on in Iraq) whatever you want from someone else just because yout hink that you could do a better job.

These aircraft are not ‘fair game’ to liberate. We are meant to be liberators, not conquerors. They should either be left there as they are, legally sold if the Iraqis want this or put into custodianship with a responsible party who can secure there future until they can be displayed in Iraq.

    best regards, steve

To be quite frank guys. Who bloody cares just get them restored and back in the air where they belong.

Past caring about all the bull politics just get as many restored planes back in the air as we can.

A very selfish approach. Id love to see such aircraft back in the sky but only if they were acquired properly. Id rather know that the liberating forces weren’t looting Iraq’s heritage than simply having as many aircraft ‘in the air as we can’. This goes beyond politics.

David Burke, I can’t agree your comments enough. In my opinion, anything taken from Iraq that isnt needed for military purposes, such as evaluation etc, is no better than the looting of galleries in the second world war. We all love Historic aircraft here but there are things more important than aircraft in the world.

Mmmm, thats an interesting point, I guess the same would then apply to T-72s/BMPS etc and other military vehicles from the same source now in UK military museums?

I suspect it has ever been thus – to the ‘victors’, the spoils

dont know much about the T-72s/BMPS….would need an explanation if you could.

I suspose it comes down to whether you wish to see our troops as a conquering army of liberating army. If the former, help yourself. If the latter then we should act like that (again purely theoretical).

    Best Regards, Steve
