Dave my critism towards your post was at least constructive. Labelling people (including myself) ‘wingers’ and ‘liberal bleeding hearts’ for having a difference of opinion hardly allows us to gain anything constructive from this thread. You may have noticed that despite my opposition, I’ve not called for Damien to remove his picture or anything else like that. I have no right to. My opinion is just that, an opinion and as someone with a difference of opinion to yourself and the great majority of people on this thread, I have tried to put my point across and if we continue with this thread we could get a good debate going but by disregarding peoples opinions because we think they are liberal or pc, doesnt allow this.

Now to break my silence on this matter, I shall state the following,

I am not a politically correct type, neither am I Liberal bleeding heart 🙂 I enjoy watching, and laughing, at Basil doing the goosestepping around the hotel as much as anyone 🙂

“”” I don’t think anyone would play the game and develop the urge to really go and bomb Berlin, or swat a foreigner!!””””””

of course not Dave. No one has suggested that I dont believe.

Moggy, it was I who posted and such I think you deserve a response to your reply to my comments. “That is not the voice of moderation”. Now whilst I realise you remain an individual, a sense of objectiveness is needed. Using Lesbians, Hindus and Disabled (the kind of references that spring up whenever people complain that Aviation isn’t getting enough from the lottery, showing that such comments are not in isolation) in such a negative sense hardly does the forum any favours, in my eyes at least. I realise of course that you were referring to a Donkey though. I am however left reeling at the thought of you in a leotard with your underpants on the outside…. Moggyratorman is a scary though. 🙂

Steve’s (Patterson) comments on what is the difference between this game being played today and recreation dogfights is an interesting thought. These demonstrations (which I never have seen unfortunately) are a useful bit of living history but they are done in the context of education. Recreating this game in a pub for charity by a few enthusiasts isn’t quite the same. This is why I said this would be better for a display in a museum. Even better than that, recreated by war re-enactors (in period uniform) at a dispersal recreation.

An example of recreations which I think do not hit the mark are the atomic bomb drop recreations from ‘Fifi’ (do they still happen?) How a small pyrotechnic explosion can convey the damage that an atomic bomb can do is beyond me. In what way does that demonstration convey the radiation that the victims suffered and the very many left dead? A question to anyone who has actually been to one of these events, how many people are stood telling their children about the wider context and how many stand there and cheer or gasp because a big ball of flames has gone up?

Computer games that feature war, as stated before, arn’t my cup of tea. But if I had children, I personally wouldn’t be a fan of letting them play on Medal of Honour etc, a game that glorifies death and recreates in detail the death (for pleasure) of people whose sacrifice I am grateful to. A much better form, IMHO, of educating younger generations would be for an enthusiastic parent to take their child to the IWM or Hendon (amongst numerous places) and explain directly to them what its all about. One point I do concede though is that games like MOH may provide stimulus for someone to get interested in second world war history.

    Gosh, that was long,

    Best Regards

    Steve Hatton.

An airworthy Blenheim IV is a rare and beautiful sight. An airworthy Mk1-alike would just be rare.

It would also give them the oppurtunity to highlight the early blenheim squadrons and the role they played at the beginning of the war.

I think we’re big enough to agree to differ. I certainly can live without another war.

Certainly Andy, im saddened its been seen as that but like I said, no more words on the matter. Im very envious of you seeing Milligan by the way. The closest I have got, or ever will get, was seeing a stage show about the goons in Leeds recently. It highlighted the effects that Milligans time in the war had on him.

Does anybody know the plans for the old nose, as it is still in pretty good shape it would make a great static exhibit to peer into (sit in  )

How hard a job is it to change two fully serviceable noses over, i mean could it be done every couple of years or it that too hard a job. Are all the joins/linkagaes common etc.

Seeing a Mk1 emmerge from this will at least ensure that something good has come out of the crash.

thats a fantastic jacket steve, good to see its in the hands of someone who appreciates it’s historical worth. Im presuming it was the jacket of the husband of the lady who gave the jacket to your friend?

Well , im in a minority it appears but I stick with my opinion. I still think the picture isn’t funny and the original idea of the game being played today(which was not a jokey matter orginally) isn’t my cup of tea. It still though has nothing to do with being politically correct (Andy, if you knew me you would soon realise that this is not the case in the slightest and perhaps you would have rephrased) but, i shall state again, taste. Anyway life is full of different opinions, which is why it is grand. Im prepared for it to be me last remark on the matter

Thanks Andy for the Sellers/Milligan tale, not heard that one before. Always good to hear some Goon trivia! 🙂

Ying tong and Best Regards 🙂 steve

Has anyone got pictures of this aircraft at the same location over the years? To illustrate its decline.

Actually just slightly to the south east of Newark Mike. 😉

actually if you keep going far enough north then you will get there eventually. It might take a while though.

[QUOTE=LesB]Fairly bemused by all the minging on this thread. Sad denouncements from a bunch of people who get all dreamy-eyed over warbirds – planes that were designed explicitly to strafe, drop bombs, kill people and break their stuff. 😡

Im interested in Historic Aviation for the history element and the machinery element. Im not into warbirds solely because they can bomb or kill people. Im not sure how long I would have lasted in the RAF of your day, mind you, I would never have wanted to join up anyway. 🙂

As for EN830’s comments, I personally would put medal of honour etc in the same category, getting thrills out killing people in a game based upon a battles that actually happened is not my cup of tea. Much more productive things to do. ( like whine on here 🙂 )

    best regards, steve

Oh thank gawd, people with a sense of humour. I thought we’d lost them all for a bit 😀

Im not laughing because I dont think it is funny. I think its tasteless, crude and crass. Obviously because I dont wish to join in laughing, I haven’t got a sense of humour. Excellent logic Damien.

“I think it’s a great idea and entirely relevant to the modern day. In fact, I’ve just found a handy map… ”

I wonder how many of our German (or anyone other nationality) forum members would find that amusing once it out of context of 1943. I wonder how many would find it amusing that you think its a great idea and relevant to today.

Maybe the Luftwaffe had a similar game, shall I post a picture of Coventry with pictures of Churchills head and coventry cathedrals burning spire superimposed over the top and an illustration. Erm…no. perhaps not.
