OK, I know this is an historic aviation thread, but in case you are not aware, the latest barmy piece of PC-ism is about. It appears that the British Olympic Committee have said they do not want the Red Arrows to appear at the opening of the 2012 games in London, because they are “too military” and “too British” – we might offend non-British guests.

If you are as seething about this bull**** as I am, please go to the 10 Downing Street website and sign the online petition that seeks to reverse this nonsense.

Deary me, I wouldnt worry Steve, sounds like an appalling newspaper looking to stir up anger and discontent as usual. Thats what newspapers like the redtops excel in.

The Red Arrows did a flypast on the announcement we got the games, they did one for the 2002 commonwealth games and they’ve done flypasts at the British Grand Prix and numerous other national/international events in this country. Id imagine the games will be no different.

Noted the info on the BBC documentary about the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight…… is this documentary for sale and if so can one post a link to where its sold ? Steve went to your website and your project looks great…will your work be released on DVD ????? Sure hope so. A fine group of brave airmen found in the RAF Bomber Command. Their deeds need to be remembered forever… not a job anyone wanted to do ..but forced on them by history. Wish they would release “SPITFIFE ACE” on DVD.. but we had this discussion before.

    Thanks

    BlueNoser352

Thanks for the kind words regards my project. Regards the question, will it be on DVD? Excellent question. I am working on it in my free time and it is a long long term project. 35 veterans have now been interviewed and I shall continue with this part of the process for some time. I hope to release it on the film festival circuit to begin with and whether this leads to a tv/dvd release – who knows – I hope so.

ETA – another 2-3 years approx.

    best wishes,

regards the web problem, ill ask about it, not my area of expertise.

Cy Grant flew three operations with 103 from Elsham Wolds before being shot down. He spent the remainder of the war as a POW. His book – ‘A Member of the Royal Air Force of Indeterminate Race”, is published by Woodfield Publishing and is a very interesting read.

    steve

    Steve,

When I view the page in Firefox, there’s a blank space where I assume the trailer is, and Firefox tells me to download the plug-in.

When I click to download it, I get a response “unknown plug-in” and that’s as far as I can get.

Cy Grant, eh? Never knew he served in Bomber Command.

This is what I was told by a member of their engineering team, if it is tosh – it is tosh from the horses mouth.

To be serious for a moment, the Canadian Lancaster is a “probable” for the UK in 2008.

from a visit to CWH on monday, I understand that they have been contacted by the Dam Busters production team with a view to flying over to the UK to perform filming duties, including low passes over the Derwent dam. Hope it comes off. Fingers crossed.

    Afternoon All,

Your help and assistance and is required with the following please. A fellow forum member over at http://www.wildbillguarnere.com/ has posted a topic about the above aircraft. Here is Alan’s post (and the link to the original post) http://forums.wildbillguarnere.com/index.php?showtopic=10788&pid=185084&st=0&#entry185084

    Calling All Aviators,

A recently-restored B-17G Liberty Belle is planning a monumental flight to Duxford, England this June for the big air show. The Belle will be taking the same ferrying pattern used by all bomber and fighter crews during WWII over Greenland and Iceland, etc. B-17s don’t do this very often anymore for obvious reasons – they’re too valuable to risk. Well, the Belle is going to take the leap of faith and appear at Duxford if it can in early July.

Here’s the deal: I have proposed to them the idea of filming a documentary about the historic flight. So far, the Liberty Foundation has been VERY WARM to this idea. I have a filmmaking and journalism background, I grew up in Surrey and have been to the Duxford airshow and I’m a B-17 freak, so this is completely in my element. HOWEVER, I NEED YOUR HELP.

This documentary is aimed to be an eventual DVD that the Liberty Foundation can sell to raise money to keep her flying. I have proposed a comprehensive documentary, complete with veteran interviews, a showcase of life in a B-17, what it is like to fly one in the 21st century, etc, etc. What I DON’T have are people ON THE GROUND for the Belle’s takeoff in the U.S. and the eventual landing at Duxford.

IF the Liberty Foundation decides to accept my proposal and do this documentary, I need to have people on the ground in June/July (exact dates not pinned down yet) with digital video cameras in hand ready to catch her taking off and touching down in England. Anyone who could do this is will immediately be given “Second Unit” credit on the documentary. I’ll be getting footage throughout inside the ol’ bird, but I need people waiting on the ground to catch the seminal moments from the outside!

At the same time, the Foundation is trying to raise money for the trip. They need $275,000. They are a non-profit – all the money given is tax-exempt. This is a chance to help MAKE HISTORY. If you guys know of other WWII forums with members that would be willing to donate money to the Foundation or you know you’ll be at the Duxford air show maybe we can work it out to get you there a day or so early to catch the Belle’s touchdown.

Guys, you know I only post when it’s something important, interesting or big and this has the potential to be BIG. It might never happen again. Even if you only have $5 to spare, I have pasted the information below. ANYONE interested in helping catch the Belle’s landings in Northeast U.S., Canada, Greenland, Iceland, Scotland and Duxford, PLEASE contact me now. While there is officially no confirmation yet if any of this will happen, when it comes to a video shoot, four months is the blink of an eye.

And remember, tell your WWII friends to jump over to http://www.libertyfoundation.org and give a few bucks to the “B-17 Overseas Tour.”

The Liberty Foundation is a non-profit, 501 © (3) organization, and all donations are tax-exempt to the fullest extend allowed by law. Donations can be made for the Liberty Belle “Oversea tour” and mailed to:

    B-17 Overseas Tour
    11564 east 7th street
    Tulsa, OK 74128

This would probably be a good start. Scroll down to the bottom of the page for a brief. The rest is self explanatory.
    http://www.libertyfoundation.org/index.php

It would also seem that Mike, the initiator of the thread, could use some assistance as well. You’ll have to become a member of the Fedora Lounge forum to contact him. Once in, scroll down to the WWII section, then look for his thread. You can contact him through that I’m sure.

    Sounds quite exciting.

If anyone is able to help in any way then I’m sure it would gratefully appreciated.

    Kind Regards,

    Pat.

I may be interested, by all means direct him to my site, http://www.electricegg.co.uk and he can find contact details on there.

    best wishes, steve

For anyone who hasn’t visited before, it’s well worth the trip and the more complete of the two JP is starting to look fabulous with the new lick of paint that is in the process of being applied.

    Hi all

An appeal to all you cockpit owners out there !

Metheringham Airfield Visitor Centre in Lincolnshire, has it’s Open Day on Sunday 6th May this year, and we have been allowed to expand the aircraft theme by inviting cockpiteers to the event for the first time.

This is a great opportunity for this beautiful site to build it’s on it’s WWII heritage, increase it’s profile in the historic aviation community and maybe add an important date to the cockpiteers diary. You could be a pioneer too !

Despite the short notice period, anyone interested in bringing their cockpit, or substantial aircraft project along will be more than welcome, it’s totally free of charge, and offers the chance to win one of a couple of available themed prizes.
All i will need are your details and a confirmed attendance, we will do the rest, i.e. free entry, allotted prime display space and a whole bunch of interested aircraft nuts (and the general public in it’s hundreds) to keep you busy.
Oh, and i forgot to mention , there are also two Jet Provosts now on site, XS186 and XS177, and visiting aircraft including the BBMF, in force, and the Lincolnshire / Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance based there for the day, so plenty of aircraft action on the ground and in the air.
It really is a very nice day, with other military themed events in an idyllic setting, so go on , be a devil, you will love it !

Reply here, by PM if you like, or contact me on 07800 945 538. Feel free to ask any questions etc.
