Do BA still serve ATH from LGW with a 734?
Ian, as an A340 pilot for Virgin, will you be flying both the -300’s and -600’s, or just one or the other?
I agree with Peter. This could have been done more discreetly.
This is precisely why connecting at LHR absolutely sucks, even if you know where you are going. A few years back, one of my friends was flying BA from LAX-ATH via LHR, and had like a 6 hour layover. She was told to go to T1 and waited until almost boarding. Turns out she was in the wrong terminal, and had to go back to T4. She almost missed her flight.
That is a beautiful site, all that smoke coming out of there! Yes, Jeanske, those are the early model JT-3C turbojets. The later model JT-3D’s were the turbofans.
All of UA’s 777’s are P&W powered (as is most of their fleet for that matter), Airline Owner, and as I mentioned in a previous thread, JAL, ANA and Korean’s 777’s are also P&W powered. I haven’t really noticed if they are smokier than most, Peter, but then again, I am usually one of the pax and I can’t tell from the inside. 😉
All the Cargo carriers aren’t based in Memphis. FedEx is, but UPS is based in Louisville, KY. Airborne Express and BAX Global are based elsewhere, can’t remember of the top of my head.

The funny thing is that there is only really one significant point that really draws me to the 747. When my kids are in the school playground and they tell their friends that daddy is a long haul pilot, every kid knows what a Jumbo is but no one really knows an A340! That sounds really stupid!
That’s not stupid. Everybody DOES know what a jumbo is. Every other type, is just another airplane, to the general public. Ultimately, you are making the right decision, Ian, with all factors considered. Even though, as you mentioned, there aren’t that many A340 routes to the U.S., one of the 2 dailies to LAX is an A340. If by some chance you are on that run, give me a buzz. 😎
They are based in Seattle. They also have a pretty good sized hub in Portland (PDX). Despite the name, I suppose it’s much more economically feasible to have hub cities there as opposed to way up in Alaska, even though they have a decent sized operation in Anchorage, and LAX, as well.
Fantastic photos Peter, as usual. I approve of those new spots. I’m going to be in AMS on 2 different occassions this summer (as I was discussing on a thread 2 days ago asking about loco’s and prices). The first occassion I will have roughly 2 days, from July 22-24 which is Thursday-Saturday. If you guys want to do a meet up, I’d be down. Friday the 23rd would be the best as I arrive on the Thursday and leave on the Saturday. If this is not convenient, then I understand. People have school/work, etc.

It seems to be a race between USAirways and United to see who will have to start major liquidation of their assets. With Seigal asking for a 3rd round of concessions from the employees I believe that USAirways will win that race.
United will survive. USAirways will not. As long as they are still around in 2 weeks when I fly Ted/USAirways/United to Ft. Lauderdale/Miami and back, it’s all good. I would like to see them stick around for the long run, of course, but they need to take care of business. If that means teaming up with Branson/Virgin America, so be it.
Instead of “what do you think,” you should have posted that little soap opera in the first place.
You must have been drunk when you posted all those outlandish rumors that never came to fruition, as well. Moral of the story: Alcohol consumption by those who cannot control their liquor, is bad.

What do you think

Except an Emirates A330 and even then i didnt feel as safe as the 757
Did you feel that the engines were going to fall off in the A330, or something? Is Boeing’s construction more rigid than that of Airbus?
