At $40 mil per copy, what a bargain! Are these brand new aircraft? How much does an A340 ‘classic’ go for?

The top 2 airports in the U.S. in terms of Intl traffic are probably JFK and ORD, with LAX not too far behind.

If Condor had such a big problem taking on the Thomas Cook name, then why didn’t they just continue with their own identity as a subsidiary of Lufthansa? Did Lufthansa relinquish control of them? Basically what you’re saying that if Thomas Cook ‘goes under,’ the UK division will continue on while the German division will disappear, correct?

P.S. Did Jmc Air get amalgamated into Thomas Cook?

Bhoy, I agree T2 is very depressing, once you get past all the shops. Fortunately, the 2 times I’ve flown out of there, I haven’t spent more than 5 minutes at a time inside the regular terminal, as both times I’ve been upstairs in the LH lounge, where the views of the tarmac are superb. I got a similar feeling in T1, but again, I was in the Bmi lounge, and from the upstairs area (it is 2 story) you can see a few planes. I thought the view in T3 is much better, especially from UA’s lounge as you see lots of taxiing aircraft but also from the terminal, as well.

I love all the duty free/liquor shops in LHR for the very fact that you can taste the booze before you buy. There’s no way in hell you’d be able to do that in the U.S.

Airports are ranked in terms of pax moving through there and movements. PHX, for example, is in the top 5 in terms of movements but not in pax because the majority of their flights are are with 737 sized aircraft. I think the more important stat is no. of pax moved. How is that measured, though? Do they only count the ones that originate and terminate their journeys, or do they count the ones that are on layovers, as well?

Dartie, my In-laws literally live 3 minutes walking distance from Bankstown Airport, so when I’m down there I can hear all the jet activity that goes on from the house. They get an occassional bizjet, and that’s it. Very few and far between. The residents in that area would not be keen on getting regular jet service. It was proposed a few years ago, but shot down.

As far as Essendon goes, why would they use it as opposed to Tullamarine, when the terminals are literally next door?

The old one looks like the BA union tail, the new one really doesn’t. That is probably why they changed it.

The single best airport shop in the world, in my opinion, is Malt Whisky World in T1. There’s one in T3 as well, but not as big.

Would this not technically be a continuation flight from HKG making it HKG-LHR-JFK, and back?

It will be tough for them to get authority to fly into Bankstown. The residents in that area aren’t too keen on commercial aviation starting there.

I read somewhere that the German division is going back to original “Condor” titles from the current “Thomas Cook powered by Condor” titles, but the tail will retain the Thomas Cook insignia. Now lets say this airline went under, would Condor also go belly up or would they go back to being what they were before, which was a subsidiary of Lufthansa?
