Could well be freighter conversions. The P&W engined 757’s are not particularly desirable in the passenger market. Freight companies will often accept old cast offs if the price is low enough.
DL and UA both have sizeable P&W powered 757 fleets, but neither are necessarily looking to acquire ‘new’ examples at the moment. What happened to all of TWA’s P&W powered 757’s? Did AA dump them or still have them? I never see them.
I went to the website and no picture. I’m assuming it’s that 777 that was posted a few days ago taken in VCV.

I don’t really think you can call Athens a European network.
I was not aware that their narrowbody ‘network’ was restricted to only ATH. I thought they operated some other routes as well. Do members of VS’s frequent flyer program gets miles when flying on Bmii flights? Despite all this, I find it mind boggling that Virgin do not have a dedicated Euro network. I’m sure they could more than justify it with their worldwide network. At least operating to the major cities.
With this Bmi Mumbai thing, couldn’t they, in theory, operate that flight out of LHR rather than MAN? Or is there something similar to Bermuda II relegating flights to India that won’t allow them to do this?
You can take shots from the observation deck with that kind of zoom. Those take off pics that Peter has posted is adjacent to one of the main runways, you can probably get away with it with the bigger jets. I have a 100-300 but really can’t remember how much of the macro I was using. There’s another spot where you see most of the narrowbodies taxiing over a bridge where you don’t need that much power. I would contact Peter and see what he is up to, even though he has a job now. He took me to all the spots. If you do wind up doing that, be prepared to do a lot of walking.
That would be a good reference tool.
Brisbane is further North than Sydney, so in theory it is closer. However, is it further West? If it is, then they could be the same distance or Brisbane might even be further. Take Sydney’s proximity to Los Angeles and San Francisco, for instance. L.A. is further South than S.F. so one would think L.A. is closer to Sydney. That is not the case, however. S.F. is further west and therefore is about 70 miles closer to Sydney than is L.A. United lists the mileage between SYD and LAX as 7487 miles. SYD and SFO is 7417.
“From behind, really good.” A family friend who isn’t even Greek, says it all the time. I couldn’t resist.
That picture is really old-school. Some of my cousins flew SAS back in 1988, I believe, LAX-CPH-ATH. They still had 747’s at that time. Any idea why: 1) They dumped the 747’s; 2) stopped serving LAX; and 3) stopped serving ATH for a while (I believe they have started again, unless they are still code-sharing with Maersk).
2 years old flying TWA LAX-EWR-ATH-JFK-LAX. 747-100’s/L1011’s I’m sure, perhaps a 707 mixed in there. I’m still in the process of researching this info, as I hope I flew on a 707.
Isn’t that Saudi SP a VIP aircraft?
Great shots Peter. Taken from my favourite spot, no doubt. Good to still see NW Trijets.
Now seeing 5 QF 744’s on the ground at LAX at any given time will be common practice. Interesting why they will opt for a 2-class cabin. I’m guessing the other 4 QF non-stops are in a typical 3-class arrangement.
Even though nobody in here understands Greek except Cypriot Eagle (haven’t seen him in a while): “Apo piso, kala!”

It’s overkill in some cases, Kabir. It happens to me almost every time I go down there. On 2 occassions I’ve had cases where the officer was very rude to me. I’m sure people can say the same about immigration officers in the U.S., I don’t know. At any rate, customs/immigration is very very strict in Australia. Maybe that’s a good thing.
I was actually hoping the deal would go through. Not only does UA generate some much needed cash but they help out one of their buddies, as well. Yeah, so they were cheap. In this case, the product is only worth as much as somebody is willing to give. Law of supply and demand. Since this deal fell through, UA better go back to 744’s on some routes where they were replaced by 777’s!
