Just to further add to this whole freighter discussion, the beauty of the freight industry is that they don’t have to fly say, LAX-SYD non-stop. Freighters make a tech stop in Anchorage, or in the Pacific somewhere, and that’s ok. Most humans prefer to fly non-stop, parcels don’t care, which is why the MD11 is a great freighter. Some of the routes it wasn’t able to fly as a pax plane, it doesn’t have to as a freighter, thus taking advantage of it’s large cargo volume.
Not quite Kabir. The MD11 couldn’t touch the 777. Sales speak for themselves there. Boeing bought out McDonnel Douglas almost entirely for their military division.
That’s a great pic WD.
I like the colors on both of your examples, Bmused. One thing I don’t like about them that I think is better on the real life example, is how it has “PIA” on the tail. Yours has the same titling on the tail and the fuselage. I think that’s a little repetitive. But that’s just my opinion. A fantastic job nonetheless.
It basically had disappointing performance compared to the A340. Even the ‘current’ model had numerous modifications to increase its range from the first ones off the line. In freighter configuration, performance decreases anyway, even for the 744, so then it wasn’t a factor for the MD11 in that standard.
I think it’s all right, it’s not what you call “Euro-white.” I’d still like to see Bmused’s example.
Most of the time when I fly UA, I purposely take a stopover in one of the hub cities just so I can maximize mileage (unless I’m flying LAX-JFK in which case I go non-stop due to the excellent business class service on that route) and it usually costs a few dollars more. As far as purchasing tickets on Ebay, who are you buying them off of, the airline or somebody that has already purchased it from an airline or agency?
WD, I’m sure that the Shuttle will not be part of this liquidation, seeing as it has to be extremely profitable for them, right? In the longrun, should US be able to survive this?
Thanks Portugal, I thought it was Tenerife or something like that.
If you fly on Star alliance members, you can. I don’t know about Oneworld and Skyteam. Last summer, I had 2 different tickets, my UA roundtrip from ONT to LHR and my BMI roundtrip from LHR to AMS. On the return, I presented both tix to the bmi agent, and my bags were checked all the way through from AMS to my final destination. The only thing she couldn’t give me was my boarding passes for the 3 UA segments. But that was ok, I just got those when I got to LHR, and benefited because the UA agent upgraded both myself and my brother for the LHR-IAD leg to Business class. Even if you fly with a marketing partner, like Emirates is with UA for example, I’m sure they can check you bags through, and you would just have to get your boarding passes prior to boarding your 2nd carrier.
Portugal, I plan on going to Portugal this summer for Euro 2004. I want to fly into Porto because Greece and Spain will be playing there. Anything I should know ahead of tmie?
Pull out of BOTH PHL and PIT? Also US has a decent presence Washington Reagan, but is that considered a hub even if it’s not a bona fide hub; kind of LAX was a ‘hub’ for UA long before it was labeled as one?
