I’m a big fan of the A300, probably one of my favorite Airbus types (I don’t know why, probably because it’s the first Airbus type I ever flew on). Don’t mean to hijack this thread, but when is Swiss OFFICIALLY joining Star?

    Howdy,

Someone has to enter this market; the fares from the US to Australia are ridiculously high.

    Bill

Ridiculously high is putting it lightly. I’ve been flying on this route for 7 years, and the last 2 have seen the fare skyrocket, espcially during Christmas (unfortunately, this is when I typically go). However, UA and NZ just put out some fares last week that saw a round trip LAX-SYD ticket cost $730US after taxes for travel between now and March 31st. That’s dirt cheap, but I can’t go this time of year. That’s about 1/3 of what I paid for my trip in December.

    By road. 😉

Remember, this isn’t American football. For a domestic away fixture, most UK clubs will only travel with a 16-18 man squad and a small support staff.

That’s fair enough. Thanks for that Lance.

New Yorkers are generally a bit sassy, but the Iberian Pilot wasn’t exactly cooperative in following instructions.

It’s only a guess, but I think it might have brought Manchester United back up from their Saturday evening match against Portsmouth. United seem to use G-ELNX quite a lot for travel within the UK.

Well that’s not very roomy travel for an entire football squad, a small RJ that seats 50. Where does all their gear go?

I flew on TWA’s classic -100’s back in the 70’s and 80’s as a youngster. Those were the days.

I thought the TED LCC was made up of A320’s pulled from the UA side of the operations?

It is WD. UA/Ted hasn’t purchased any ‘new’ aircraft in quite some time. The forming of Ted had absolutely nothing to do with being recognized as a brand new carrier to purchase new planes.

Southwest is by far the most popular loco in the U.S., and very profitable to boot. Long story short, they allowed a female passenger to board the flight, that according to several people seated near me, was having some emotional issues prior to boarding (crying, anxiety, etc.) yet was allowed to board. Then, upon taxiing to the end of the runway prior to lining up for takeoff, without explanation, we taxied back to the gate and said passenger was deplaned. Again without explanation, we taxiied again and took off, coupled with the hour delay prior to all that, we took off 2 hours late. Bottom line, that woman should have never been allowed to board in the first place if there were some obvious issues beforehand.

this is directed towards my preference for Star Alliance airlines on which I will pay a premium to get frequent flyer miles, lounge access and a much better chance of an upgrade.

Ditto. Couldn’t have said it better myself. I will fly Star, no matter what, even if it is more expensive. Most people think I’m crazy, but they also haven’t gotten random upgrades due to flights being overbooked, had lounge access, nor have gotten as many award travel tickets the last 7 years as I have.

I detest the locos, in my case, Southwest. I have flown them 3-4 times (out of respect in these situations based on traveling with a group who could care less about ff miles, elite qualifying, etc.) and with my most recent experience with them about a year ago, I will never fly them again.

    I choose airline not type.

I didn’t say you did. Did you have the same issue with BA/LH/VS Boeings that you did with UA’s?

I fly on United roughly 40,000 miles per year, and I never get any pilots sounding suicidal, pension or no pension. So Boeing is to blame now? That’s the most ludicrous thing I’ve ever heard! None of the airlines you mentioned fly Boeings.

Did I mention the unfriendly crew and suicidal sounding pilot? My dad has been in a few business class cabins in long haul and he rates UA as the worst of the lot!

Yeah, I’m sure no other airlines have employees that fall under this mold. I’ve flown in several business class cabins and for my taste, UA is only blown away by SQ, and is right on par with QF, NZ, and LH.

There were other films but they introduced Kindergarten cop over the PA as the main movie. Given the listings in the magazine were wrong and no PA was made there was no way to know which film was what.

All the films where not digital quality as the sound was not crisp as digital is and neither was the picture.

Yeah, well, that’s when you flip through the channels during the opening credits and find one that appeals to you. Either that, or watch Kindergarden Cop, which is a classic. At least you had channel 9 and good grub. Not crisp digital sound? Big whoop.

UA is due to upgrade their long haul cabins soon, anyhow.

LBA-LIS would be a nice one for me but I can’t see that happening. Then again the train ride from Faro to Lisbon is quite pleasant so I can live with it!

I’ve done the drive from Lisbon to Faro and back, and it is rather pleasant. I wasn’t aware that there was a train that did it. It is worth noting that I was amazed at the number of Britons in the Faro/Algarve area. There were busses full heading up to Lisbon to watch England play Portugal in the Euro Cup in 2004.

Back on topic, my hometown airport of Ontario, CA (ONT), I would simply like United to reinstate the ONT-ORD run that was cancelled after 9/11. They reinstated the ONT-SFO run that was also cancelled post 9/11, and offering a daily ORD flight would offer more options to connect to UA’s ORD-European network, or even connecting onto LH flights.

AKL – LAS is a route for people who want to get to Las Vegas fast, avoid LA by all chances

Yeah, but realistically, are there enough customers to make this route viable?
