First flight would have been the first leg of LAX-ATH via JFK on TWA back in 1976. I was 2 years old and do not recall the aircraft. More than likely, it was a 747-100 which is what is was when we flew on the same route with the same airline 7 years later, but it also could have been a 707 or a L1011 as those were also used on that route in the mid-70’s. There was actually bad weather in JFK and we were diverted to EWR, from what my mother tells me, and I was promptly lost in the airport for a short time. A very worried mother of mine found me a short time later glued to a window watching aircraft movements. Ironic? I think not….

You may be right but i remember reading somewhere that the 767 and 757 have the same exact cockpit, due to the 767 project being hurried or vice versa.
The 767 was never hurried, they were developed alongside one another, with the 767 actually entering service before the 757. As far as commonality goes, I think it’s fine and dandy that the A330/A340 has commonality with the A320 series and that pilots rated on one series can fly the other. But let’s be realistic here. If you’re an A340 captain on airline that also flies the A320 series, as you going to spend any time flying the little guys? I seriously doubt it.

I thought the missile idea was eliminated in favour of Kapton sparking?
Aren’t those TW800 theories you’re making mention of, and not SwissAir?
This SwissAir will go out of business, and another will start up in its wake. Then that one will go out of business, as well….
The only time anyone in the U.S. carries a passport, is if they’re traveling internationally. If we travel domestic, we only take a driver’s license. I can’t believe your drivers license don’t have pictures on them. They do in Australia.
So he just went off and put it on the A346, mind you very makeshift as it just looks like a sticker with white background. Brilliant!
Good job Peter, those pics look familiar. 😉
In the AirlinerWorld article, did Sir Richard not ‘promise’ BA that he wouldn’t put, “BA couldn’t keep it up,” on his aircraft? I just saw a VS A340-600 with makeshift “Concorde, BA couldn’t keep it up” titles on it.
Yesterday, I saw the AF Concorde parked at a remote location in IAD, soon to be put on display at the Air & Space Smithsonian’s new branch at IAD.

For 99% of people, ID=passport.
Not in the U.S., Mongu. The only ones that have passports here are the ones that travel abroad, and I’m sure that percentage isn’t as high as it is in Europe, per se. An I.D. here is a state issued Drivers License, or for those who don’t have one, a state issued Identification Card. By the way Michael, Thai’s Royal Barge was again at Heathrow on June 24th. I have a pic that I’ll post.
Air Transat also lost their ETOPS license for a while after that. I’m sure it was re-instated at some point.
John, TWA never flew 737’s. As far as you being glad they’re no longer around, you’re entitled to your opinion. However, does one lousey flight justify wishing that, upon one of the most influential airlines in the history of aviation? I’ve had flights as bad as yours on America West, and I surely do not wish that fate upon them, let alone any airline, and their name isn’t even in the same ballpark as TWA’s. At any rate, what wound up happening to that flight Mike? On my journey to and fro LHR this last week and a half, all 4 of my UA flights arrived a half hour early every time.
Congrats on your milestone Mongu. From here, it does appear to be a -20, errrr, -40. I was just at the observation deck at AMS the other day. I was in awe at how much area it stretched out to. I met Peter Tenthije there and he took me on quite a spotting tour all around AMS. Many thanks to him again for that. I’ll be posting pics as soon as they get developed.
Andrew, your scanner produces some good quality, actually. I’m very disappointed with mine. The next batch I get developed, I’m going to get directly on a picture CD, no paper. That way I eliminate the scanner.
Cbstd, UA 935 is LHR-LAX, via JFK, isn’t it?
