Aer Lingus no longer operate to EWR. They pulled the route after 9/11. they were able to operate to EWR because it is counted as a New York airport.

Ok, I was not aware of this, but they still operate to LAX and JFK, and by that token, they do serve the U.S. In your earlier post when you said, “A seperate agreement between Ireland and the US restricts Irish airlines to operate scheduled flights to New York,Boston,Chicago and Los Angeles,” Did you mean ‘Irish Airlines other than Aer Lingus” or just Irish Airlines in general?

I know what a codeshare is but what I meant was the airline i.e. bmi would be using their equipment but under United air operating licence.

Ok, I see what you mean. I do not know the answer to that question. Perhaps someone else can shed some light on the situation.

Amazingly, its almost a year to the week when all the trouble went on with Skylinerworld and Richard1986,

It’s only been a year? Wow, It seemed like much longer ago.

Last time I checked, Aer Lingus have non-stop flights to JFK, EWR, and LAX amongst other places, from either Shannon or Dublin (or both). With this ‘codeshare’ that you mention, would the U.S. carrier be operating the flights with their own aircraft? If so, this type of codesharing already exists.

Are other airports’ runways in danger, as well, or just ORY?

I’ve always considered myself one of Sandy’s biggest supporters, and I will continue to be so. He gets a little belligerant at times, but that’s just his personality. When he makes his smart-a$$ comments, I don’t feel that he has malicious intentions in doing so. Suffice it to say that you can not take him seriously when he goes on his rampages about 75% of the time. That being said, I do not condone personal attacks on anyone. At any rate, his contribution to this forum cannot even be measured. How much time do you think it took him to complete the “how to make a template” thread? I don’t even want to begin to think about it because I surely do not have that kind of patience, nor that amount of free time for that matter. Furthermore, how often has he refused a request from a member to see a particular plane in one of his outstanding templates? I would imagine not very often. I’m in 100% agreeance with Hand and hope he comes back.

The 744ER, like the 767-400, was more of a customer request. The customer that asked for it, bought it. It required relatively little R&D.

    This true.

However, it would not make sense to go “all out” and complete revamp the 747 for an airframe that might not sell more than 200 copies.

The idea is to add range, seats and plug the gap between the 744 and A380.
Modified wing, new engines and the fuse plugs will do just fine. there is more to it obviously, I’m just simplifying.

    Perhaps.

I haven’t bothered drawing PW engines for my 747-400 😉

I know, and I recall you mentioning this the template thread. Just wishful thinking on my part. You did the the pratts for the SP template, and I figured you would eventually do them for the 744 just for the heck of it. 😉

Would it? I think not, not only would it push R&D costs upwards (it’s not as simple as taking the B777 system and modifying it slightly), you would loose commonality with the B747-400!

It would, but if it’s going to be ‘advanced’ with a new wing and whatnot, why not go all out? I think it would attract more customers. Why would they want to make something new with old technology? Why do you think there were so few customers for the 744ER?
