Would it? I think not, not only would it push R&D costs upwards (it’s not as simple as taking the B777 system and modifying it slightly), you would loose commonality with the B747-400!

It would, but if it’s going to be ‘advanced’ with a new wing and whatnot, why not go all out? I think it would attract more customers. Why would they want to make something new with old technology? Why do you think there were so few customers for the 744ER?

I miss TWA bigtime. I flew them twice back in the 70’s and 80’s. I was fortunate enough to fly on their 747 classics and the L1011. I might have been fortunate enough to fly on a 707 as well, but this cannot be verified as I was only 2 at the time and my mother didn’t know one plane from the other. I like that 744 in the recent TWA livery, Sandy. My favorite livery of theirs was the double red-stripe livery, as that is the one I was most familiar with when I was flying them. Just one little thing I’d like to point out. I noticed you put GE’s on that drawing, which is cool. However, if TWA ever did take delivery of the 744, my guess is that they’d have Pratts, seeing as they were a very loyal Pratt customer.

Helican, I have a question. Did United ever begin operations to SXM? They announced over a year ago that they would begin a single weekly flight from ORD on Saturdays, but I can’t find that flight in their timetable anywhere.

Stretching it a mere 3.6 metres doesn’t seem like very much at all. If you’re going to go through the trouble of stretching it, why not stretch it a little more? Also, is it pretty safe to assume that the Advanced will be fly-by-wire?

Ahah that’s what I suspected, after looking at my atlas and working out roughly what route we would have taken. I just thought it might have also been the Mojave, a bit further North. Thanks for clearing that up.

I just confirmed it. Initially I was about 95% sure.

Obviously this first one is more important, as it’s one of the aircraft ‘graveyards’ and so I was quite lucky to catch it. It was around 30-40 minutes after departure from LAX, a short while after passing the first batch of mountains. (1st photo).

This is undoubtedly Victorville (VCV), about a 45 minute drive (with no traffic) up I-15 from my house.

surely SQ wouldn’t want to take custom away from their own offshoots on the LHR-JFK route? (ie SQ own 49% of Virgin)

Yeah, I was wondering about SQ, because they are ‘forced’ I guess you can say, to fly to JFK from FRA (I’ve flown them on that segment) but I suppose they would prefer to serve JFK from LHR. It’s only right for them to be granted the rights to operate this route given the aformentioned rights BA and QF have from SIN on to LHR. I had also forgotten about NZ’s LAX-LHR flights, but can they actually sell seats for just that segment, or is it just a continuation from AKL-LAX? I know TG can’t sell tickets on their SYD-AKL segment, but EK can. UA can’t sell seats on the SYD-MEL portion of the LAX-SYD flight.

Hasn’t one of the airports been totaly closed?

respect or no respect, thats gonna cost airlines money. There will be people here, there and everywhere expecting to fly there, only to be told no. They’ll blame the airline and compensation thus ensues.

Actually, they both did. I agree 100%. And the Serie A isn’t exactly selling out stadiums at the moment. That League is hurting, and they cancel a whole slate of games. Alitalia is on the verge of bankrupcy, and they close down 2 of their hubs. That’s gonna hurt big time.
