Which plane has intake and first compressor stage in straight
line –> Rafale and this is not good for a low RCS.

even with your head in the air-intake of the rafale it is impossible to see the first compressor stage.

Some people think that because of the way it looks in photographs. These people see in radio wavelengths and thus are able to tell just by looking.

Some people think that a small fixed antenna has a far smaller RCS than a big plate moving quickly in all directions. And they are right.

Regarding the good observation that Alliot-Marie elected to make public a non-incident: She is one of the hopefuls for the next presidential election in 2007. Do you think she is beyond pandering to the Arab electors? hmmm…

This event was far more dangerous than the German frigate or the Leclercs.

1- Those F-15 were flying were they were not supposed to be

2- They initiated an attack run on a UN position which had no mean to know if it was a simulated attack or not.

3- german fregates (and other AAW UN ships) have the possibility to turn on their tracking radar to warn the Israeli planes when they have gone too far.

4- that was not the case of this french unit which only has short range IR missiles and who, according to its UN mandat, almost had to shoot those planes.

The behaviour of the israeli planes were, in this very case, completly irresponsible and could have led to a dramatic situation.

As for Rafale being safer, I don’t know, maybe, but after 75,000+ flyhours the Gripen have not had a single engine failure that led to a crash.

Yes, but Switzerland only operate twin engine fighters (F-5, F-18) since the end of their mirage III

When is the Rafale production line to close ?

    2020+

Switzerland may well stay for the JSF if they can get deliveries in time. If they can’t then it will be either super hornets or one of the euro canards.

Switzerland likes to assemble and modify her aircrafts by herself and I don’t think the JSF will allow that.

They also prefer strong aircrafts able to land on short runways. I do think the gripen and the rafale are the best choices for the Swiss. (The F/A-18E being too big)

The gripen, is cheaper and uses the amraam already in service in the SwissAF but the rafale is safer with 2 engines and some of its parts are already made in Switzerland.

Greece will buy something to counter the Turkish buy, as is the way with national rivalry, though whether Greece will decide on the JSF or just more F-16s or the Typhoon, we will have to see.

Greece has already said that she will not buy more F-16. The next order, around 1010-2012 will be a 4th generation aircraft and most probably the rafale or the eurofighter. If Greece decides to buy the JSF, they will do it in order to replace their early F-16 after 2015.

The F-35 will be late and much more expensive than expected.

Given that, UCAV dedicated to strike missions could eat some of the F-35 A/C orders after 2015.

Boeing and Grumman will push for that as hard as they can.

The Su-37 definitely impressed me most when I saw it live at an airshow in 1998.

    Same !

I don’t know what went wrong with the Rafale

Dassault tried to target new markets… US markets. Those were mostly F-16/F-18 users.
But the last and cheap F-16 bk5x, F-15 E derivative and the F-35 marketing proved to be too strong for the the tiny french company.

but it is very very unlikely that the Rafale will achieve a similar success

Wait and see what happen when the rafale is offered to a (former) french jet user (Greece, Libya, India, Qatar, Brazil, Switzerland)

I actually even doubt that they ever score a major sale and will shelf the whole program in a few years.

Well, the production line will stay opened until 2020+ for the french need only…

“French” SH-60 from the same movie :

I wonder why they absolutly wanted those aircrafts to be french… couldn’t they choose a NATO country which actually use the SH-60 (Greece, Spain…)

Here are some shots showing Rafale and Typhoon in formation flying, but these pictures are taken from an flight simulator. Maybe you like them too.

    Nice ! 🙂
    Looks like Falcon 4

My god, the RAfale look like so rusty (or dirty) on that picture ….

After 3 months sailing the red sea and the indian ocean, that’s nornal 😎
