He was Killed in this incident

03/01/1966 XR638 Scout AH1 21 Flt Encountered engine problems while on a delivery flight from Wroughton to Middle Wallop. It lost height and crashed tail first at Marlborough, Wiltshire. It then caught fire and burnt out killing the two crew. Caused by inadvertent closure of the fuel **** in mistake for the heater control

Where’s Paul Macmillan when you need him

Don’t know where he is but Paul McMillan can’t find a crash either

His death was registered in Marborough in Qtr 2 1966 but his death is on 3rd Jan 1966 – Can’t see a crash to fit. Earliest one is 5th Jan 1966 however his base is listed as “RAF Wroughton” of which there was a RAF hospital! So maybe died as a result of earlier incident

She crashed 12th March 1942 at Crewkern, Somerset while with 602 Sqn

Pilot F/Sgt Frederick David Schofield R/77188 (RCAF) (later Commissioned as J/19292) baled out safely.

I had a quick look again last night and cant make out my notes again in morning description says

“The pilot seemed to be having trouble establishing his position and eventually asked for ? on the emergency frequency saying that he was short of fuel. The aircraft then approached a disused airfield and in attempting to land struck a tree and crashed”

can’t make out the ?!
