The MOD in fact HAVE granted a licence to a UK resident, a Mr Matt Rimmer, who also seems to be a TIGHAR member! Seems odd, if the MOD/RAF Museum are to recover it that the MOD should grant a licence to TIGHAR. Presumably, this is a licence for TIGHAR to hold and to use if, indeed, the MOD elect not to carry out the recovery?
Anyway….who the hell came up with the name “Maid of Harlech”? Yeuk!! Shades of “Glacier Girl” methinks. An equally crass/naff name.
How about ‘Sewage Outflow Gal’ ?
Was anyone tempted to shout
“Poland is that way ->” :dev2:
[QUOTE=Junk Collector;1287329]I dont understand what the RAF Museum would possibly want with a P38 Lightning it was never used in the RAF[QUOTE]
IIRC at least 3 were evaluated by RAF/Air Ministry and maybe 1 or 2 more were ‘borrowed’ from USAAF Units
Also don’t forget that one of the most decorated/brave pilots in the RAF was killed flying one
Maid of Harlech stop your dreaming
Can’t you see their spade points gleaming
See their warrior’s pennants streaming
To the farmers field
Maid of Harlech stand ye steady
It cannot be ever said ye
For the recovery were not ready
Stand and never yield
Form the hills rebounding
Let this war cry sounding
Summon all at TIGHAR’s call
The mighty force surrounding
Maid of Harlech onto glory
This shall ever be your story
Keep these fighting words before ye
Lightning (P-38 never) will not yield
Appolgises to the film Zulu – I am sure some of you could do better
RX168 is now registered to an organisation in the Caymens
Nice floral home furnishings there… NOT!!!!!!!!!!!
Talking about RX168..
“Potential change of Registered Ownership in progress”
What about Douglas Bader staying at The Stork Hotel in Liverpool? :diablo:
It get’s more complicated the more you think about it. About the only manufacturer I can think of is probably Henschel but someone will probably inform me that there is still a Hs126 or 129 still existant somewhere. Maybe Blohm und Voss would be a candidate?
Blohm und Voss BV155 – Dunno how complete

However Henschel is a possibility

Yes but loads of Fokker Friendships survive!
It does, it’s at Solent Sky, and it doesn’t fall into the remit of this thread as it was a prototype.
I was not clear on what I mean’t I was trying to determine the criteria for a Major Manuafacturer- I was typing the original question on my mobile phone. I meant the definition of a ‘Major Manufacturer’ was one that had a least 1 in-service aircraft. So if manufacturer X only existed long enough to produce the X1-Prototype that was evaluated by Y then it did not count..
However, if a Major Manufacturer had NO in service aircraft that survived, but a prototype of their wares did – then it could be deemed that the Major Manufacturer had a survivor..
I am sure the Saunders Roe jet flying boat survives
Can’t help with the Tiger Moths, but I did hear he had to put his hand up an exhaust!

And the official site
I understand that complete sets of the Impressments Log are as rare as hens teeth. After a very long search, I bought mine from an aviation journalist in the USA. Individual volumes do appear on the lists of the specialist online booksellers – but at a price! Maybe AB should think about republishing the set.
I would start a search on ebay and try bookfinder for Peter W. Moss Peter Moss and or Impressments Log – A couple of single versions of the 5 volume set are on there now
I have a theory ‘McMillans Theorum’) that almost everything legal that you want comes up on Ebay eventually and I have only been failed once – and I am sure if I waited long enough it would come up! – So try there as well
Oh yes – the ONLY reason I am telling you all this is I have a complete set!!!!
