I think it was in a book, if not ETPS then perhaps something to do with RAE Farnborough – but it’s all too vague now, my old brain’s getting tired!
I think I’ve seen this somewhere before – is it an ETPS photo and is that Jeffrey Quill at the far left of the 3rd row (in civvies with a natty striped tie)?
Many thanks for some excellent photos.
The Bristol T.188 was XF923, by the way.
A couple of laborious hours with Photoshop could get rid of the worst of the dust spots – but I’m afraid I’m not volunteering! It even looks as if someone trod on the massed JPs photo with a plimsoll (what you call trainers nowadays).
It just wouldn’t be the most graceful any more!
The claim that this was a copyright violation has been removed from this thread, so I have removed my comment too. End of story.
#35 question.
Mike, according to Watkins’ Vampire book, page 217:
“During the late 1970s these aircraft were fitted with new UHF equipment, which was housed in a pointed nose similar to that of the Venom.”
I was afraid that something like this would happen . . .
It looks as if I shall have to write to Reynolds to pose your questions, but I am far too busy just now.
At least the cockpit is now almost complete, and there’s an engine on the front! So you and your colleagues haven’t been entirely idle, Gerry!
Many (all?) of the Swiss Vampires were sold all over the world, and several still fly. I bet someone out there has a full list of them and their present locations!
Gerry H, you are right, it was Sunday 8 August, and we had a great time, spending a lot of time talking to the Ventura restorers in particular, and even clambering over all the odds and ends stored up on the restoration workshop balcony. Please thank all concerned again for their wonderful welcome, which we found was a common trait in Canada – we were made to feel at home everywhere we went! By the way, what was the story on the Bell 47 next to the newly restored Norseman on floats?
Before sarcasm sets in, I would like to point out that the trip was arranged and paid for before I was suddenly made redundant without warning. I then just had to grin and bear it!
Sorry, Bruce and Mark12, I was trying to make a joke but they tend to misfire at that time of night!
Shouldn’t all the Dzus fasteners in picture #8 be lined up with the airflow? Or am I reverting to my Chief Tech days and being too picky?

Here she was in August – Albert, you’re gradually stealing my thunder – I want to put threads up for these museums later!
However if you find me a different job than sitting around writing captions and posting threads, I’ll forgive you – I’m unemployed and desperately seeking work, no kidding!
