They were hardly likely to be flying over South Wales yesterday, though!
Reverting to the original point of this thread, please note the total absence of fences, we used to be able to walk straight on to the apron (called “ramp” in more recent times) in those days!
BOAC VC-10s at Muharraq, Bahrain 1968
These were BOAC VC-10s.
This was a serious question and I would like a sensible answer, please.
Perhaps a moderator could answer it?
When do Commercial subjects become Historic?
Is there are “cut-off” year? Or are commercial propeller-driven aircraft historic and passenger jets commercial?
I have some lovely VC-10 pics from 1968 and wonder where I should post them, if I ever do.
Please note that this is a serious question!
Do you mean cicadas, the grasshoppers that make an infernal racket as they call to each other?
I’m using “USAAF Fighters Part1” by them, the only alternative would be the CW-24B, which I doubt it can be!
The shape of the fins is right for the XP-55, but not the side air intakes! However 3 were built and extensively modified, so I still reckon that’s the one!
There may not be a proper answer to that question, since thousands of components and sub-assemblies were made in hundreds of different factories, the photos show final assembly, which is perhaps what you would like to know about. In other words, starting with a kit of parts, how long did it take to put one complete aircraft together? Is that what you mean? Perhaps some retired production manager could tell us!
I now wish I had gone to Rönneby too, but felt too jet-lagged after my epic Canada trip. Next year it’ll have to be Rönneby instead of Halmstad, if not both!
I think number 4 must be a Curtiss P-55 Ascender
87 Sqn Hurricane IIC
Here is the same picture but in colour, from page 79 of “The History of the Royal Air Force” by John D.R. Rawlings.
Thanks, jeepman, just added that link to my Web Favourites . . .
Let’s say I just try to please everyone . . .
Well done, Jochen, it pays to get there early before the aircraft become hidden by crowds of people!
Departing Nice airport
It’ll probably look like this when you take off, although I was on an SN Brussels Avro at the time . . .
