Red Lion near Duxford
I am beginning to wonder if I found the wrong “Red Lion” last week – can anyone confirm that this is it, please? Mine host was Greek and very pleased about the fact that Greece won the night before.
I hope there is at least a vague connection with this thread!
Well, it is the second time I’ve put it up on the Forum within the last month or so . . .
Like this? (Dayton 2003)
I’ll try to get the props going round this time! (Thanks to Forum members, in particular dodrums, for camera help)
Better pack my parachute, then!
Didn’t realise there were any DC9s left, and I thought DC10s were only used for freight nowadays, but I dare say we’ll be packed in like cattle anyway.
On picture 3, the block of flats furthest to the right along the bottom edge is where I used to live! (That flat is for sale, by the way, any offers above EUR 14000?)
Gripen International is the sales company, which I believe is based in Britain, thus neatly avoiding Swedish sensibilities regarding sales to belligerents.
Thanks EAL_KING – at least I know my leg from Gothenburg to Stansted will be a 737 (Ryanair)!
Are there buses from Stansted to Gatwick, BTW? The train is a bit expensive and carrying luggage on the Underground is not my favourite pursuit!
Gatwick-Minneapolis 29 July
On a similar theme, my Oshkosh trip begins with departure from Gatwick at 12:10 on 29 July, I believe on Northwest. Then there’s a departure at 17:00 from Minneapolis to Green Bay. Can anyone tell me what kind of aircraft is likely to be used for these two journeys please?
Pablo, no offence meant, but any mention of the 707 in this context is bound to bring out the Comet apologists (myself included) in force! Sorry if we overreacted!
Gripen production line photo explanation
Försvarets Materielverk tar 14 nytillverkade plan ur den av den senaste versionen 39 C och 39D, tvåsitsaren, och hyr ut dem till Tjeckien. Det svenska flygvapnet skall utbilda piloterna.
FMV is taking 14 newly manufactured aircraft of the latest versions, 39 C and 39 D, the 2-seater, and leasing them to Czechoslovakia. The pilots will be trained by the RSwAF.
– Planen nytillverkas ju inte utan finns på det ordinarie tillverkningsbandet men det finns viss utrustning som beställts extra, säger Heidi Wendt, informatör på Saab.
“The aircraft are not new builds but are on the ordinary production line, although certain extra equipment will be installed,” says Saab spokeswoman Heidi Wendt.
– Vi skall också ge tekniskt stöd för planen.
“We shall also provide techical support for the aircraft.”
That explains my surprise at what I thought were new-build Czech-destined airframes on the production line.
I didn’t see the one at Linköping on our recent visit, Sonnenflieger, where are they hiding it? Must find it on the next trip!
Oshkosh 2003
I’ll be there again this year! Pity there’s no Vulcan to meet under!
Here are a few of the many pix I took last year – no captions needed, for you dyed-in-the-wool enthusiasts.
Ah yes, the Caravelle was much loved by Swedes, as she was able to take you all away to sunnier climes (and cheaper booze!)
Skol och glad sommar, Sonnenflieger!
From a Swedish newspaper “. . . i juni tecknades ett avtal om att hyra ut 14 Jas 39 Gripen under tio år till Tjeckien”
In June an agreement was signed to lease (not sell) 14 Jas 39 Gripens for 10 years to Czechoslovakia . . .
Whatever the case, lease or sell, I hardly think that construction is so far advanced in a mere 8 weeks or so after signing an agreement!
Calm down chaps!
