Well she was an aircraft carrier, after all!
Even extreme measures with Photoshop didn’t bring up anything that looked like a serial.
BTW my intense interest comes from the fact that my late father may have worked on this aircraft! He was in the Fleet Air Arm as a rigger on loan from the RAF before and during WW2.
You’re right, bms44, should have enhanced the fin first then looked at it instead of making my Seal guess! It looked rounded to me at first. I agree with IIIF now, especially as I don’t have good references to find out any more.
I can fiddle around a bit more with Photoshop but I think the serial is under the tailplane from this view.
” . . . note the aircraft rotates with its main undercarriage already off the ground; strange.”
Stratocruisers used to land nosewheel first, too!
Someone was probably hanging their washing out to dry on deck and forgot to remove it!
Reminds me of those message pick-up contraptions that used to be on army co-operation aircraft.
Mystery biplane
This gives a better view of the fin, with a bit of help from Photoshop . . .
I am also disappointed not to be counted as a Forum stalwart, by the way, I’m doing my best!
From what I can see of the fin shape, it can’t be a Fairey III model!
I think it’s a Fairey Seal fleet spotter/reconnaissance bomber. For example, 822 Squadron Seals were aboard HMS Furious between June and November 1936, but these aircraft could have also been aboard at other times.
The general characteristics seem to match those of a Seal, anyway.
Anyone else prepared to have a go?
You have my sympathy, andrewman!
It would be the cat from next door – no doubt if you have a cat of your own you have trained it to keep off the models. I’ve had two cats and trained both.
IKEA has a nice line in what we call “vitrinskåp”, glassed-in bookcases, I suppose they are.
As some consolation, you should receive my photos on CD soon.
Weren’t those sucker arms telescopic?
As a matter of interest, when did Daleks last appear on TV? I seem to remember them appearing in black and white episodes around 1963, but I’ve never seen any since then.
OK, Robbo, I believe you, although I have two computers . . . (but the second is not on line, and it would be altogether too complicated to set up such a scam, I think!)
Wellington Mk X navigation trainer? Last saw one of those at Swinderby aeons ago!
I rest my case!
I can just picture Robbo rolling around the floor laughing his socks off, but of course part of the game is that he’ll never admit being the instigator!
