Bait taken, JDK, I am convinced by Jeffrey Quill’s own account that it was on 6 March, not as popularly stated 5 March, as he relates in “Spitfire – A Test Pilot’s Story” on page 71 of my copy. I am sure he took that date from his logbook.
To my eternal shame I must admit that we shot several of those down into Cardigan Bay with our Bloodhound 2 missiles in the 1960s . . . Sorry, guys!
To be precise, setting the dpi in Photoshop 7 (and maybe version 6 too) is via:
Image/Image size/ Document size/Resolution, with Constrain Proportions ticked and Resample Image set to Bicubic . . .
Another way after setting the image width to 700 or so, is to “Save as” a .jpg file and then when it asks you for the “Image Options/Quality” choose around 8. I then look at the size of the file in the directory I saved it to, and see that it is lower than 100k. If it’s too big, go back, save as again (with the same name) and this time try 6 or 7 instead of 8 for the “Image Options/Quality”. When you’ve done it a few times with different pictures, you get a “feel” for the image size and .jpg quality numbers.
However, I didn’t know about the “Save to Web” method and will try that to see if it’s better.
A couple more taken at Oshkosh last year – with the gear firmly down and locked!
Aluminium Overcast
As seen at Oshkosh last year. Beautiful!
Thank you John, it’s just that I have an irresistible urge when I see a photo here on the Forum that is way too dark, or light, or with a colour cast, to manipulate it in Photoshop to get the most out of it! However, there’s no need to send me the TIFFs, my own personal database in which I do keep the best possible photos deals with first flights of prototypes and first series production aircraft. They are the pictures I try to improve. However, there is one exception here, the one with a dragon on the side of it, I would like to be able to see more detail on that one for interest’s sake, and would appreciate a TIFF copy. Please send it via E-mail.
Thanks, davforr, it’s great!
Enhanced picture
I have taken the liberty of giving one of your photos a bit of Photoshop treatment – not a lot, but some of the hidden detail appears. I hope you don’t mind!
Are you sure you are putting the complete path information into the window? Of course if you are using the browse button that should happen automatically. Don’t just write the file name ito the window, the path always on normal computers begins “C:” and continues with the full path name.
No idea, Gunship, you’d better ask Basler! I was on a visit there last year, fascinating but we didn’t talk about the marketing side, just looked at the whole conversion process, which is extremely comprehensive, including total rewiring, especially interesting for me.
I can hardly wait, Philo, I was a sergeant aged 25 and it was one of the most awe-inspiring experiences of my time in the mob.
“Once you have registered your username, it becomes yours for life. In extreme circumstances, you may request that the administrator change your username, but he or she will require a very good reason to do so.” Quotation from FAQ.
Richard, it looks as if you will have to ask the Webmaster/Administrator very nicely if you want to change your username “stopthefighting”.
Dbr = Damaged beyond repair
Here’s a view of the Basler conversion facility, conveniently near to Oshkosh!
