Mobiles
The most irritating device invented!Maybe in the future on booking a flight you will be asked”mobile part of the cabin sir?” They are of course an integral part of todays lifestyle but an irritating one.I cannot see why people get so uptight about being asked to turn of during a flight.Incidentally while refuelling an aircraft once I forgot to clip on the anti stat to the airframe and watched in amazement the sparks jumping from the clip to the airframeand it was a petrol job!The fuel bowser was an old leyland Hippo .So judging from the posts people dont think mobiles could have sparks lurking somewhere!!I suppose kerosene fuel would need much more than a teeny weeny spark!!
flight
tell him not to forget his passport as well!!!
Serial number
I have the book with this photo and if I remember correctly it is in fact WL745 so there!
Area
Your map shows the the main servicing hangers, further to the south west was another hanger mainly corrugated iron type and next to it was a copse of trees in which there were air raid shelters.that should be a good area to look.Google co-ords are 52degs 16.17N &03degs29mins E.You will see that the hanger is long gone and overgrown but the flight line office appears to be there, many a good p..was had there at the end of the students course! At the south west end of the runway was a fire dump which had a couple of vampires and later the fuselage of a Valleta that turned up and was full of old spares mainly old gennys and starter motors and other stuff so maybe bits of that still buried there.
gains
what would the total weight be of all IFE equipment on one wide body and obviously this would mean less fuel used so would they drop their fares?Personaly a good book would suit me!
fakes
I cannot recall any fake pilots turning up after crash investigations?
look here
Tell him to look around the air raid shelters next to the road at the west end of the camp!!We always threw old stuff amongst them!! If they are still there next to the hanger!!
line accidents
Much more dangerous than those big whirly things with yellow painted tips of long ago!!
Highjacked
Watched it on the “classic movie channel”.I would hardly call it classic !Plot revolves around Charlton Heston as captain of a 707 and a demented soldier who wants to defect to Russia!Nice flying shots of the 707 and some good formation shots of “Thuds”(russian fighters!)formatting on the 707.Cheap let downs at the end at the supposed Moscow airport with loads of chevies and jeeps and the russian soldiers with M-16 rifles, never mind it passed a couple of hours!!
