should be a record summer passenger number wise – so not that terrible. Could be better of course, but when you have people from York driving all the way up to NCL to catch flights with Jet2 to TFS -don’t expect too much!!

Well I would have thought so too – hence David’s comment caught my eye.

Ryanair got where they are today by starting off with vinatge 737-200s and these were well over 20 years old when they retired them – and Ryanair were working these aircraft really hard. So Jet2 have a good few years life left in their 1986 – 1988 fleet especially as they are not working them that hard – even in the summer months.

    As I’m sure your’re aware…
LBA-KRK currently 2 weekly with Jet2, goes 3 weekly mid-March and 4 weekly from the summer timetable.
NCL-KRK currently 2 weekly and going to 3 weekly from the summer timetable.

I would imagine they’d look to increase those services before adding a WAW service from either airport.

I don’t agree. It’s 4 hours by road between Krakow and Warsaw so what they do with KRK has no bearing on what they do with WAW. The fact is if they want a slice of the migrant workforce commuting back and forth from the Warsaw area, they need to offer a service from WAW. They obviously thought this, but chose the wrong UK airport given Wizz have already grabbed the market for poles heading into the North West. I also think they will not be increasing NCL-KRK for a while now that Easyjet are competing on the route.

    MAN-LGW definitely axed as well.

Not surprised about WAW to be honest, it’s not exactly a ‘city break’ destination for the UK market in the same way as say Krakow. And with the Polish migrant workforce well served for getting back into the North West UK with an impressive low-cost selection out of LPL – I’m not really sure why Jet2 ever went for this.

LBA-WAW or NCL-WAW would be much better bets considering Yorks and the North East has only a 3 x weekly Wizzair to MME (and that doesn’t start until well into next year)

There is LBA expansion – SOU increases to 3 x daily. Wouldn’t have expected much else considering that they have all of the BACON integration to deal with plus they have no idea who will be running LBA by the time the summer season starts. It could be Balfour Beatty with whom they might be best of friends or worst of enemies depending on how the relationship develops at EXT.

The measure of success of whether LBA is sold to the “right” bidder will be if Manchester Airport look at the new owners and think “oh ****, we’ve got a a bit of a bit of battle on our hands for the Yorkshire market now”. Remember, MAN needs a big flow of passengers from Yorks and Humberside to keep at current passenger numbers and to justify more investment and at the moment there must be as many people from Yorkshire using MAN as there are people using airports in Yorkshire. LBA with council owners, limited investment in facilities and no investment in access, has managed to get up to close to 3m passengers so you’d have to think it could start to recoup some more passengers form MAN under the right owners. Out of the confirmed bidders so far, I think BB are much more likely to get the MAG group a bit twitchy than MAR. In fact, if I was running Manchester, I’d be delighted if a low key operator like MAR came along. To stir things up in the North, it really needs a big established operator like Macquarie or Abertis to come along – then things would get interesting.

However, I’ve got to admit that in the mid 1990s, at the quiet periods at MAN, I used to count the number of people going from gate to aircraft.

    why?

True Blue, congratulations for cutting and pasting your posts on PPrune on to this forum! Flybe are not alone in hyping up new routes just look at the trash press releases that both Easyjet and Ryanair and now Jet 2 issue – in fact, Jet 2 now have the audacity to call themselves “Belfast’s Low Cost Airline” when they don’t even operate from anywhere near Belfast!. When do you ever see any airline actively publicise dropping a route – the aforementioned airlines have all dropped routes without notice and seldom give a valid reason for doing so – remember the Jet2 fiasco over BFS – ORK and BOH a while back?

What is the problem with Flybe saying they will increase MAN frequencies? Would this not be a natural thing to do since BA Connect will be no more? I would say that WW would need to start worrying at BFS!

No, the natural thing to do is to cut capacity, increase fares and actually start making some money. There is massive over capacity between Northern Ireland and the North West of England. Something was always going to give and here we are. And what’s with the BHD vs BFS garbage? What next I wonder, people feuding over North Terminal vs South Terminal at Gatwick????

Just to be clear on the order in which things have happened up at LBA….My Travel the tour operator have found another airline to undercut AEU, which is why AEU have reluctantly had to close down. Don’t get into thinking that AEU have left My Travel in the lurch, it’s quite the opposite.

lukeylad, one fo the new a/c will be a 757 😉 For flights to TFS, PMI, AGP and others to be announced 😉

Looking at the NCL schedules for PMI and AGP, they are both in the air at the same time, so if a 757 is to be based, it cannot operate PMI and AGP.
Also, the PMI schedule is done by the MJV based aircraft so unless they are planning to base a 757 to run MJV-NCL-PMI-NCL-MJV it won’t be a 757 on PMI. There are 3 757s in the LBA schedule for the summer already and 2 at MAN, so Jet2 will need to buy another 757 to operate one out of NCL.

Will Ryanair ever expand from LBA?

Yes. Just give it time for the council owners to be replaced and let the negotiations begin.

FlyMonarch – MAN-EDI was on sale until the end of October. It is now on sale only until the end of September. So this is nothing to do with them being late in loading the winter schedule.

Well one route that won’t be getting a 737 anymore never mind a 757 is MAN-EDI. By the looks of the website, its axed from 1st October.
