It’s on my ‘to do’ list and must admit, haven’t read any Tolstoy. All things being equal I reckon I have about twenty years in which to get it done!

I usually have a couple of books on the go at any one time. My acquisition last year of a Kindle has exacerbated the situation because I no longer have to go out or wait for mail order to come up with the goods.
Am about halfway through ‘Victor Boys’, which I am enjoying hugely – very readable with lots of interesting gen in amongst the anecdotes; recommended.
Recently finished ‘Buccaneer Boys’ which I found a little pedestrian; given the subject matter and some of the personalities who made contributions I did expect better – a little dull.
And, by way of contrast, ‘The Tenant of Wildfell Hall’. At my age I figured I ought to attempt at least some of the classics, having been put off Dickens by my ‘O’ level course in 19**.
And I am loving it – if you can get past the long nineteenth century sentences it’s a terrific story; those Bronte sisters had, um, a remarkable grasp of human emotion!

Can’t get my tablet to copy and paste the ***##@! link, but Wikepedia’s heading image shows the cranes quite clearly, no date though.
I think that second photo looks like a ‘Colossus’ class vessel. Beyond that I cannot go.
Here’s Implacable

Letter ‘C’ clearly visible in one image.
Tend towards Jack Deth’s opinion too. To my untutored eye Indomitable, as an Illustrious class vessel, has a slightly less expansive forward superstructure.
Sorry, redhillwings. But why a ‘heads up?’ Not needed. Bit tone lowering? I know this is ‘General Discussion’ but I don’t see the need to tell us about the programme. Cheap sensationalist approach to a guy who, having been found guilty and jailed, is pretty odious. Don’t have a TV, shan’t be watching.

Just google ‘Ken Ward neighbour’ and all will become clear. Actually, and in the spirit of personal comment, I’m not sure why the thread was started.

Have a look at the wreck of the ‘Russalka’, a Russian ironclad which sank in 1892. It’s not entirely encrustation free but it’s pretty incredible. Not to mention the Wasa. A wooden ship but amazingly intact – makes the Mary Rose look a bit feeble. Take a look at the Vasa website – no outward sign of decay on the wrecks hull when salvaged.
Must admit, I am now more inclined to the view that the sub is an old one than I was.

Interesting thought. Looking up ‘Russian submarine Catfish’ shows it to be a Holland boat which certainly qualifies in terms of size – they really weren’t big. I also recall that the waters of the Baltic have an uncanny ability to preserve shipwrecks.

Thanks, Key for the tip off.
