Ok, I’ll do it! Dining, arm, woman or man?

Dare I suggest that our journalists are attempting to appear truly European at the expense of Britishness?

Gonna suggest it is PA 474. No exhaust shrouds and if I recall right it wore the KM-B identity for years? Long before the BBMF the aircraft was in the custody of 44 Sqn, hence the chosen codes. Didn’t they conduct the major initial restoration work and fly it? My own earliest memory has it without mid-upper turret but definitely 44 Sqn codes, (a la Nettleton VC).

I have to say that in my place of work I represent the more, errm, senior side of things. My bright young colleagues are genuinely bewildered by miles, yards and inches. Pounds and ounces leave them cold, and stones…..forget it; they just aren’t taught imperial any more.
Had an interesting talk with a young lass of twenty four who was utterly amazed to discover that when I were a lad we had different money. The idea that we did sums in these weird amounts whilst at primary school left her incredulous. I guess, sadly, ’tis a sign of advancing years. Funnily enough they all understand the concept of a pint though!

Didn’t think for one moment that any attempt at superiority was involved here but I am quite a keen aviation nut and have followed the ups and downs of the aircraft preservation movement since the mid seventies. Frankly, hadn’t a clue what the various abbreviations meant and therefore found the opening post a real trial to read; way too convoluted.
As for ‘Vulcan to the Sky’, well, on the face of it they haven’t covered themselves in glory but we haven’t heard their side of the story yet. Maybe we will at some point?
Bottom line at the moment appears to be that the article was theirs and they have exercised their rights of possession in a rather tactless way.

Very sorry to hear this. As a very young lad I inherited a couple of books published by him which had belonged to my dad….still have them. Then, as a teenager myself I became addicted to ‘Aircraft Illustrated’ and a marvellous companion publication, ‘Aircraft Illustrated Extra’. Not to mention long hours on Grantham station trainspotting Deltics and Brush 4’s with one of his guides in my pocket. Truly, an amazing contribution to the history of transport publishing.

His music was a classic illustration of the way in which a good score can really lift a movie. Terrible shame.

I blame Mrs Meteor. She MADE me go onto a contract…..kept muttering something about having to pay for all my calls. Tried the ‘for richer for poorer’ argument, and then suggested that it was OUR money but that didn’t seem to work either. Funny how it’s HER car, until it needs petrol.
You’re right though…I was much happier on pay as you go, it controlled my call rate very nicely because my mind was always thinking about cost. Contract can lull you somewhat. We get free calls on the landline after six pm and all day at weekends, do we use it? Nope!

Yup… (puts head above parapet…) I work in local government, (ducks quickly) and it’s a mine field, believe me. I wouldn’t dream of bring rude to a colleague or customer (at least, not deliberately), but oh my word……
I have had an interesting time trying to explain to my younger colleagues my theory that there is no such thing as Human Rights, only Human Privileges. My reasoning being that not everyone has them and most of them have been bought at one time or another in blood. But no, they don’t get it.

It’s only a thought…..maybe if you’d been on a contract the call would have gone through and you would have received a ginormous bill!
Have to say, if I don’t recognise the number I take the attitude that ‘if it’s important, they’ll ring back…if not, who cares?!?’
By the way, I too hate it when my phone rings in public.
