What a waste of everyone’s hard work and effort. I’m amazed at how effectively the museum seems to have kicked up a storm from nothing.
🙁
If it’s going to be broken up, I’d gladly give a control column/throttle box/instrument or two a good home, as I don’t have any and would love to start a small collection. Does anyone know how complete the pit is?
Hope he hasn’t got banned-he was certainly trying it on with the mods in a (to me at least) rather tedious fashion over the Burma debacle. But his knowledge and expertise would be sorely missed here.
Just found a few more recent photos-click on the photo at the bottom of the page. Kudos to the Bodo guys for sharing recovered parts from other Condors as patterns!
Just had a look at the new site. Looks great, well done to all concerned!
Thanks for posting these, what vivid and beautiful images. I particularly love the Vixen at low level “showing off”. Just look at those condensation vortices!
I’m more worried about the price of the pints. Yeesh!
That looks super! Like others I’m glad to see it back with the three-blader 🙂
I was unaware of the whole project! Thanks for posting. Looking forward to them flying it around the world – that’s quite a challenge with an original Liberty engine to deal with!
Can’t help thinking this one’s for the woodpile.
IIRC the last time this was discussed here, it was suggested that a wartime OTU scheme would be ideal, as it would both honour the individual history of this a/c in training, but also present the type in its most important configuration/role as a bomber.
The Radio Times article this week about the programme showed the Dh.51-presumably they had a day filming at Old Warden then?
That’s a bit of a coup! Did you manage to get the 104s then?
Great stuff! Thanks, I’ve been wondering how the He219 in particular has been getting on. Can’t wait to see that particular beauty back in once piece…
Great stuff Matthias!
Quick question – was it usual for Packard-built Merlins to retain the “Rolls Royce” stamping on the rocker covers?
Or is it a case of the “Rolls” brand having enough sex appeal that Merlin rebuilders fit the stamped covers as a matter of course?
