Again, total and utter nonsense. If regulations require certain safety features to be retro-fitted to aircraft then they’re going to be fitted to ALL aircraft they’re required on, not only those still in production. I see no reason to believe a 737-800 is inherently any safer than a 737-200 or an A318 any safer than a 20 year old A320.
PMN is quite right in what he says. Emergency airworthiness directives can be issued regardless to whether an aircraft is still in production or not. I often get emails through from the CAA with different directives which have ranged from modern aircraft to rather old aircraft where they issue information on certain changes or checks that should be carried out on certain parts of an aircraft.
This MD11 is unsafe stuff is rubbish! The Diamond Twinstar had alot of complaints about it too because of its engines but the airfield I fly from has loads of them and theres rarely a problem. These things just get carried away and all of a sudden unrelated problems on the same aircraft type (like with these MD11 accidents) all get rolled into an arguement stating the plane is unsafe.
It maybe a challenge landing it but the aircraft obviously met required guidelines for certification.
