To be fair, even a small airfield requires the radio operator to have a radio licence so small children chatting over the RT is not acceptable anywhere, and is indeed a safety issue. The military, air ambulance etc all pass through ATZ’s of small A/G airfields and wouldnt appreciate a child chatting away when they are trying to recieve info on any conflicting traffic.
When I flew from Truro we had the hospital nearby so always had the navy sea king and air ambulance flying through our ATZ, if we had kids chatting over the radio imagine the possible problems that could of caused.
Im not aiming this at anyone, but children on the RT at any airfield, whether its JFK, Heathrow or Truro, is a safety issue. I would hate to have a kid chatting away as I was joining the circuit to land at any airfield.
