    Coincidence?

Salut reports its AL31F-M2 turbofan is ready, thrust up from 12.5 tons for the basic version to 14.5 tons for the M2 version.

    http://www.aex.ru/news/2011/7/7/86484/

Just a while ago. There is the order from CAC for 123 units of AL31FN made by Salut.

Several years ago, Jane’s reported in its ” Super-10 ” article that Salut developed AL31-M series for future J10.

It highlights close relation between CAC & Salut & CAC does value its long term partner.

Just as mentioned above, the 3 winged design has been thrown into history . SAC’s new bird no canard or alike.

are there really sanctions on SAC? is there really a J-11B IP issue? some members here think there isn’t one 😉

but you’re right, the WS-10 on J-11s could simply mean that its not an issue of production capacity, but that CAC is pleased with the AL-31FN in its J-10 and currently has no intention of adopting the WS-10 yet.

lol, u think first deputy head of the Federal Military-Technical Cooperation Service is a member here ?:D

Russians no issue with IP doesn’t mean they are happy with J11b, the policy is Russia only export kits, engine being part of it, instead of individual component. So newly produced j11bs come with no Russia engine because of this. However, those early J11s built from Russia kits, will still have Russia engine support including the new replacement engine. Is that clear enough?

Yes, the best reference of what will the J 16 look like, from the open source with long history :p

This is to be one of the failed Jxx design by SAC. It used to be the standard Jxx picture about half decade ago.

No, it is not based on the failed J-20 proposal, the faile proposal is an three-winged fighter, while now they get a pure conventinal layout with a pair of large leading edges.

The failed proposal is design by an very big old academic bully at SAC, he is a fellow of China academy and leading scientist at SAC, and he and his students who take senior positions at 601th insistute is the exact reason why SAC cannot come up with any new designs.

SAC’s current proposal is based on eariler proposal of J-20, which have been rejected by the bully, in favor of his own weird design.

Blizer doesn’t make it wrong, the J16 is based on or derived from one of failed Jxx bid, 3- winged design being another Jxx proposal submitted by SAC then. As we know, the 3 wing design lost to CAC’s design which is now J20.

The J16 will take the strike role to replace Su30, jh7. It will be more ready to be shipborne than J20 and J15 will serve just as a stopgap shipborne fighter.

It will be less sophisticated than J20, but could be more multipopose than the latter. Cheaper is of course. Because it’s more conventional, though it flies later , it can enter service even earlier than J20.

come to think of it.. it looks alot like the recent HAL AMCA model

perhaps its Chinese engineers examining a potential adversary.

Don’t make ur usual joke here, a ready to fly prototype no need to kowtow to any model for display. A real plane prototype before its fabrication, the blueprint is designed and refined via numberless wind tunnel aerodynamic study and other research of models. It takes years for the hard work.

However, u gradually seem to believe the new, upcoming SAC bird looks less like flanker as the PAk-FA does.

Wonder kopp did the same test on the PAk-FA model or not, probably they did but haven’t released the results, only the conclusion. Which is well quoted here.

At least ppl have built scale down models of J20 based on various images available, and sent the models for various microwave tests. It’s more than just see n say only.

since China has a near 200 strong J10a fleet, now total order 400 AL31FN ( including the 123 newly ordered but yet to deliver) seems quite reasonable quantity, considering the Al31 life span is much shorter than that of J10 airframe.

Furthmore, the WS10 is the power plant for twin engine J11b/bs, J15, etc. The single production line of WS10 will keep busy for a while when the upcoming Aircraft carrier & Planaf order of J11bs is soaring.

The JF17 though light weight, looks really promising. It comes with credible BVR engagement capacity by SD10A, it also can do standoff strike from some 60kms away by launching LS 6 PGM. It also can carry out antiship mission when loaded with C802.

    Happy wkend 🙂
