Of course F22 will fly more than M2, and I do think the M2 is the limit for DSI as the boundary layer will be separated over that.

Why F22 still stick to the Caret is because of the high speed/super cruise requirement, I heard DSI performance is not impressive at supersonic high speed.

One thing I don’t get it is why Russian can’t even sell engine to both India & Pakistan because of Indian’s complaint but Americans & Europeans can sell much more lethal weapons to be it fighters or submarines to both Pakistan & Indian without the same country’s complaint?

Suggest India don’t buy the fighters from Russian, then buy it from Americans but Americans are selling F16 to PAF then where’s their previous stands?

It’s said that the one in white is previously known as J10 prototype 1005, ready to attend the Zhuhai airshow but canceled at 11 o’clock because of strong opposition from PLAAF

Since our “cameraman” Jason accidentally caught the WS-10A without realizing it when he was actually intended to picture the PL-9C in front, he was therefore encouraged by the vast netizens to re take the AVIC1 WS-10A poster again, so he did and thus we can have a dedicate and even closer check.

The media is also alerted by the surprise of displaying the WS-10A engine and some reporters are urgently dispatched to attend the Oct 31 WS-10A news briefing by AVIC1.

5 years on core engine reseach

5 years on model development based on that core engine.

5 years test & fine turn your model engine and final certification.

And of course, 5 years Core engine development can lead to other model as well

For example, since CFTE now has IL76 engine testbed, we can be pretty assured that the big thrust engine model suitable for big plane/ airlifter based on the same WS-10A core maybe is under development.

Do You have a picture of the exhaust area of the WS-10A … just to compare it with the one installed in the J-11 !!

    Thanks, Deino 😀

No, my guess is it should have being influenced by AL31F turbofan engine. Any way, China doesn’t have external access to other western military engines but only Russian’s

At which part of your three step cycle is the WS-10 in your opinion? When I understand you correctly, it is still ten years away from regular service?!

The WS-10 project is formerly started in 1987 and finally certificated in Nov, 2005, the span is 18 years more than the 3X5 =15 years. In 2006 it entered small scale manufacturing and the new WS-10A engines were mainly installed in the J11B fighter assembled in Shenyang, an extra 1 year of small production of WS-10A indicates the AVIC1 took extremely precautious to evaluate the WS-10A in real production line. however judged by the new facilities in Xian and elsewhere to boost the manufacturing of the WS-10A parts, the output of WS-10A will be boosted to large scale. Since the AVIC1 now is confident to reveal the Taihan Turbofan engine in an international airshow event. The WS-10A’s production must have entered mass production. Today, It will be not only sufficient to power J11B but also the excess unites from production can be used to power the J10. the WS-10A to power the J10 must have its gearbox on the bottom like AL31FN and those to power J11B should have the box on the top like AL31F.

In developing Turbofan engine, thinking carries no weight

The saying from Chinese aviation industries is : 5 years research, 5 years develop and 5 years certification. Even we have a good “ thinking”, it still up to the time consuming development & certification. On the other hand, developing engine needs big funding, after WS-10, I think AVIC1 still got other fighter jets engines projects. Can they really develop so many engine projects at the same time? I don’t think there will be Ws-10 commecial version soon, that’s one of the reasons why we see the big order of IL-78 by PLA.
