There is a very interesting interview with the CAA on Flightline UK, covering their view on the Vulcan and the TFC situation from their perspective. Just go to the news section and scroll down to the heading “Right to reply – the CAA responds”
Note, in the programme, it states an 11 ship Lightning display, well, sort of, I remember one passing inverted at Mach 0.97 as a lead up to the big one.
Has anyone got a pic of the rarity on the day, the Alconbury F-5 Aggressor, painted up in Soviet bloc colours, I’m afraid that mine is on a colour slide along with the rest of the shots that day.
I cant positively guarantee that this was Binbrook but the weather seems to match:-
Stop the NIMBY’s
Just in case anyone hasn’t seen this petition yet, there is still time to sign.
We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to introduce a green paper proposing ways, that, where complaints have been instigated by resident(s) against a long standing activity (for example, church bells, sports facility, local airfield and similar), and where residence has been taken up since the start of that activity (providing there has been no significant increase in activity), a presumption should be made to protect the continuation of that activity and reject such complaint. Obviously Gordon Brown will get right on to it!
Ahhhhhh Finningley!
Concorde was indeed at finningley in 81, also in 86 and 87 according to the old programs I have just dusted off. 81 was THE show though, Lightning display culminating with a high speed low pass as the first of the four Vulcans began to roll. Those were the days! Anyway, thought these may be of interest:-
I made the 400mile round trip to Duxford yesterday and enjoyed a fairly good show. There was a few pleasant surprises and the only non appearance seemed to be the sun going “Tech”. A woman neer me spent most of the afternoon wrapped in a blanket. The show itself was a good mix, some nice combos such as P51 and F86, the unexpected arrival of two Gnats with the Hunters ( but no “Blue Notes” from either Hunter. No complaints about the £24 quid, still less than the fuel costs getting there! I guess the show was’nt as slick as legends, with a few quiet moments when nothing was happening. Having said that I sometimes feel Legends is a bit too slick and some of the really interesting participants are never in the air for long.
So, all in all a good day but shame about the weather. I would post a few photos but had a bit of a problem with the camera lens.
Airshow Participants
Flightline Uk are showing two Hunters in the flying display. Does anyone know which two? Could this be the same pair who displayed at Elvington (which I missed), if so it could just tip the balance and persuade me to make the 400 mile round trip to Duxford
I have some late 80’s early 90’s Finningly ones, and some late 70’s early 80’s Riat. I even have one from Teeside International Airshow (1983 or 4 I think….)
Ah the Teesside International Airshow,,,,,,,,,,,,,those were the days! I seem to remember the scheduled Dan Air flight arrival featuring high on the program.
Joking aside they did have some good shows, seem to remember the Black Knight T33, original Vintage Pair and the Rolls Royce MkXIV Spit being there from time to time. Its not all glum up north!
For me it has to be a flyable Tempest V, the other nine are just the backing group!
Great Yorkshire Airshow
According to the news section of their website Silver Lady is scheduled to be in the static display at Elvington.
However, they are also still advertising the Vulcan to be headlining the show and with only two weeks before the show the thing hasn’t even flown yet.
Another participant is listed as a RNHF Swordfish, also a non flyer at the moment I believe.
I also see from another thread on this forum that the victor is short of funds and may not be able to do its fast taxi run at the same show!
Take these out of the equation and the program looks a quite weak. Very sad really, I remember just a few years ago they put on one of the best shows I have ever attended (and that takes in a fair number). A well thought out program with a good mix of aircraft from WW1 to the modern era.
